I dropped my car off last Friday at an Imports Only auto shop for an oil change and some minor transmission work. The had detected a small transmission leak and recommended replacement of a transmission plug, and pulling the pan and replacing the pan gasket. After work was completed, it will now not go into gear. They said the replaced the parts, and then topped off the tran fluid. They saw no shavings or anything in the bottom of the pan. Anybody have any ideas? Please help!

Refilling MBZ transmissions can be a challenge. The system requires a special synthetic fluid, and the level is temperature dependent. Also, the vehicle does not come with a dipstick, so the shop needs an OEM measurement tool. My guess is they used the wrong fluid or did not properly measure the fluid fill.

You called it!

Thanks for the reply rudeney! It was the fluid level. Apparently one of the technicians didn't know how to use the measurement tool and fluid level was not right. Once the level was good, she runs good as new! Thanks again.

Glad to hear all is well. Filling the 722.x transmission isn't rocket science, but it's also not your daddy's Oldsmobile.
