In need a few questions answered. I recently purchased a very clean, low miles '03 cl600 from a Mercedes dealership. The dealer listed the engine as 6.0L V-12. The carfax report I viewed after the purchase listed the engine as a 5.5L V-12. I tend to believe it is the 5.5L V-12. Does anyone know if the '03 cl600 came as both a 5.5L and a 6.0L?

I have also noticed that many (if not all) cl600 are bi-turbos. Are all '03 cl600bi-turbos? Additionally, the rear of my car has an AMG moniker on the trunk. Other '03 cl600's I have seen in pictures do not have the AMG moniker. What is the deal with the AMG designation? Obviously not all cl600's are AMG.

Any insight would be helpful.

For the U.S. market at least, all 2003 and up CL600s had the bi-turbo engine. So you've just gotten yourself a rocket there, congratulations! :D

Even with the optional AMG bodykit from factory, the CL600s did not come with the AMG emblem in the back. The emblem you have was most likely added by the previous owner. It's a common practice to install AMG badge on standard Mercedes vehicles.

your dealer is an idiot. All 03 to present CL600's are 5.5L V12 twin turbos, the AMG badge on your trunk was put there by another idiot as the car is not an AMG, badges are usually requested by the owner or bought on ebay. The 6.0L V12 TT comes in the CL65 SL65 and S65 starting in 04 to present. You have a serious vehicle on your hands, enjoy. Anything else you want to know about the vehicle just ask, I know it inside and out :D

I experienced the same thing today. I test drove an 03 CL600 and I couldn't tell if it was a bi turbo and it was my understanding that all 03s had them. The car also is listed as having almost 500hp...but I couldn't hear any turbo spool and also the dealer continued to tell me it was Naturally Aspirated.

All 2003 and later CL600's are bi-turbo. You can't normally hear the turbos.
