Hey guys
I have an Ml320 2002 100K on it brand new tires, has an intermitent and noncosistant whine or howl that comes from the rear, no vibrations, started this winter, and with the tires needing replacement, I figured I'd wait till nice weather and get new ones, (figureing that the noise was a tire noise), well the new ones are on and it still comes and goes, no leaks, no odd wear on the tires, no hx of physical damage

anyone with similar history? and what was it?

what type of oil does the diff take? and about how much?

over the past 5k/miles it has not gotten worse, or more or less frequent

my fairly crack mercedes mechanic shrugged his shoulders, and I'm not enthused by randomly replaceing bearings that may or may not be problematic

any help is appreciated :crybaby2:

turned out to be the center support bearing on the rear diff, we figured it out by putting it on the lift and running it tilll the noise appeared, I use Roberts Porsche/MB in catskill, he's about the best, and doesnt soak you like the dealser does
