Hi All
This is my first post, I've searched the forums and found a lot of helpfull posts, but have a few questions still.

I've just bought a 2003 ml350 and a set of original 2001 amg ml55 wheels.

Will I need longer wheel nut to fit these wheels?
The original wheels are 17" x 8". The amg wheels are 18" x 9"

Also the amg wheels come with 255/55/18 tyres not the 285 wide tyres, so is it ok to have 255 tyres on 9" wide wheels?

Will the ml drive/feel any diffrent on the road with the 255/55/18 tyres instead of the original 255/60/17

Is the slight diffrence in wheel offset anything to be concerned about?

Thank you.

Hi drX
Thanks or the reply. And the welcome to the forum message.
I will see how they feel once fitted, I was just concerned about 255 tyres on a 9" rim..
But from searching older posts I see a few others have had the same set up.
Regards Wyatt

The '01 AMG wheels are the same size as the '03 ones.

If you check your owner's manual, you'll find that the correct tyre size is 285/50 R18 for that size of AMG wheel. The offset is the same as the stock 17" wheel. Call a dealer if you don't want to check the bolt length for yourself. They'll be more than happy to sell you 20 new ones.

After you fit the new wider tyres, of course you'll get a performance difference. I doubt you'd notice it unless you drive like a hoon.

255/55-18 is the same rolling diameter as 285/50-18. Have been running that for years, no issues.

Nicer ride than the 50 series tires. Much more grip than stock. No issues with stock wheel bolts, plenty of bite (enough threads for engagement). If I was tracking the car, I might worry about longer bolts, but no issues on the street.

Jerry

Thanks for that info Jerry.
I'm happy to stick with 255/55/18 tyres.
I'm looking foward to bolting them on.
Only reason I bought the amg mags is because the original wheels on my ml350 I just bought have very bad scratches on them, the previous owner must have rubbed the curb a lot while parking. And I. Love the look of the amg's

I liked the look of the AMG's also. Never had any regrets.
