  2. Suspension - bang for buck

    R/C107 SL/SLC Class
"Replace them all plus this stuff." FWIW: Not sure who you use in NoVA, but I'd take it into an indy you trust and put together a plan of attack based on their view of how to prioritize the work. I replaced a ton of stuff (if you want the list, you'll find it on this site) and realized...
  3. New hood pad pic

    R/C107 SL/SLC Class
I bought a plastic bristle brush (the kind with a handle that protects your knuckles) and gave it a good brushing. It's wise to cover the engine bay with some old drop cloth when scraping and certainly while glueing.
  4. The friendly 70's...

So THAT's how I got the dents on my trunk lid.

  8. 300/500SL Air Dam

    R/C107 SL/SLC Class
I would leave the car alone, unless you're into anachronism. The bundt wheels don't go with the airdam.

It's a good thing your dog knows "sit," but more importantly, it seems to have mastered "stay," as well. How much more does the new engine weigh than the old one?
  11. Soft-top problem

    R/C107 SL/SLC Class
It may not need much adjusting, if any -- My driver's side closes everytime, but to get the passenger side to latch, I jiggle the cable-release handle in a clockwise direction. That's usually enough to get the passenger side to latch.
  12. F/S 1986 560 SL Silver/Blue 98K $13,400 (Northern VA)

Reducing price. $12,900. Thanks for looking. KTT

Recent work also includes A/C blower motor, hood pads, flex disks, ball joints, control arms, O2 sensor, and more. Has been upgraded to the '88-'89 third brake light. I'm looking to put this project to bed and replace it with a car that seats the entire family. Thanks for looking. KTT
  14. Wish me luck.

Funny you should mention the BMW. Drove a 330 ci on Saturday, no fifth seat, though, but has a cool accordion-style box to hold the top in when down. When the top is up, you can collapse the accordion to get a full trunk. The pickings are very slim, not even the Bentley has a 5th seat...

Nice observation. That's an upgrade by prior owner. It is an '86. And, no, MikeD, no 113, unfortunately. Suffering a bit of an early mid-life crisis -- needing something that seats 5, but that leaves very few convertibles to choose from.
  16. Wish me luck.

The wife just asked me if this makes me sad. Not yet. http://www.benzworld.org/forums/sale-trade-wanted-items/1394010-f-s-1986-560-sl-silver.html#post3027704 KTT
  17. F/S 1986 560 SL Silver/Blue 98K $13,400 (Northern VA)

Solid daily driver, pretty, but not perfect. Price reflects lots of recent mechanical work (timing chain, tie rod ends, rear bilsteins, catalytic converter, muffler, etc.), new MB Tex seat covers, stereo, etc. Soft top in good condition. Includes matching hard top, hard top storage cover and...

It's a deal, Mike. I did it about a year ago. Saturday afternoon is cool. Will PM address.
  20. Molding, weatherstripping

    R/C107 SL/SLC Class
Mike, assuming a cool garage, I think you can definitely do this one yourself (as long as you bought OEM); looks a lot trickier than it is. It's all about placing it dry first to see exactly what it's supposed to look like as it twists around from the back to the sides. A bit of gentle shoving...
