  1. What did you pay for your used SL500?

    R129 SL-Class
they're honestly my favorite wheels. if I ever hear you sold them to someone without letting me know, you better sleep with one eye open.
  2. Would this be something we'd be interested in?

    R129 SL-Class
After selling my Pano top to someone in Taiwan, I have to say I really enjoyed being topless. I think I put the soft top up maybe 5 times in the last 8-9 months (gotta love the drought) Anyway, Ive been lurking through the SEMA photos posted online and I saw something that caught my attention...
  3. Tires ate struts!

    R129 SL-Class
That's weird. I checked fitment and it was fine on my car. I do have to mention there was rubbing before I swapped the wheels, so maybe its from that? I had those same wheels on another SL and it was fine *shrug*. I miss those wheels...
  4. What did you pay for your used SL500?

    R129 SL-Class
I cant even remember what I paid for that car. I want to say I too paid around $5-5500 for that SL? alternatively I paid $2200 for my sl600. but that was a huge gamble that paid off. Takes balls of steel to do that- and I can whole heartedly tell you, I don't have that; I just have no foresight...
  5. Part two of shipping pano crate to Taiwan.

    R129 SL-Class
Not sure; the shipping firm is being unhelpful. Will investigate further... I will probably just end up calling customs in taiwan and try to establish a coherent dialogue with someone on that end. I was under the impression that the shipping firm would take care of all this for me... To be...
  6. Part two of shipping pano crate to Taiwan.

    R129 SL-Class
I completed the crate and its pretty sturdy, I have to say I'm somewhat impressed with myself, but thats for that thread... So the shipping company is running me around in circles and after a few (pretty one sided) conversations with them on the phone and email replies, they are adamant about...
  7. Interesting Finds on Craigslist (No personal adverts please)

    R129 SL-Class
Yup. i would have bought it... Looks beautiful, with the exception of that exhaust tip sticking out like it does. I know that was the style back then, but bleh...

haha he finally brought down the price!
  10. Wacky Finds R129 SL (Put them here)

    R129 SL-Class
Alright.. alright... In light of the news that R129s cost more in other parts of the world (I didn't think Australia would be one of them), I take back my comment... If the car was located in the states, however... *puff* *puff*.
  11. Wacky Finds R129 SL (Put them here)

    R129 SL-Class
Jesus. $6,000? Is there another SL included in the sale? Someone needs to put down the crack pipe...
  12. Have you driven your SL500 from lower U.S. to Alaska? Good or bad idea?

    R129 SL-Class
There was an article (or editorial?) I read a few years back of someone driving his circa 2000 corvette to Alaska and back. It was car&driver or motortrend or something... I searched for it again and nothing came up, but maybe someone here might remember more detail about it. The driver/owner...
  13. Star diagnostics

    R129 SL-Class
Reading the specifics on it is kinda scary: "language: Korean ... Laptop: Len-ovo best configuration" ... With that said, I can't wait to hear your review. I may buy one myself!
  14. Uhaul Auto Transport

    R129 SL-Class
    Semantics!

  16. Wacky Finds R129 SL (Put them here)

    R129 SL-Class
My guess this is a ~1991. The old style airbag and interior is a dead giveaway. Not to mention the older pre facelift front bumper- its euro style with little protusion compared to the newer ones. The shop vac soap bucket is a nice touch too... Why call it a 97???
  17. Crating a Pano roof for overseas shipping.

    R129 SL-Class
Thanks for the pointers; it's possible I still may go you're route. I'm pretty anal, so if even remotely looks like its rickety in the end, I won't ship it out; the top will be firmly secure and case will be firm before its out of my hands- Like I said before, this is purely the basic structure...
  18. Crating a Pano roof for overseas shipping.

    R129 SL-Class
My guess is 1/10th of SLs have a pano. This is purely speculation on my part, but I check craiglist throughout California and local ads all the time for SLs, and have noticed only about 10% of them have the pano top. Of that guesstimated 10%, half of those people have no idea it's worth a pretty...
  19. Crating a Pano roof for overseas shipping.

    R129 SL-Class
This is the basic frame of the crate I'm making. The idea is to have it stand up like when its on a cart. When I make it stronger, pad it up and close it with plywood, I'll put down the measurements for future reference. Then we can all take bets on if it will survive a cargo container overseas...
  20. Crating a Pano roof for overseas shipping.

    R129 SL-Class
Haha, I was surprised how quickly and easily it sold. The inner business major in me says that I sold it for too little since it sold fast, but we all know thats not true; the universe just aligned at the right time. After nearly everyone telling me that the 600 will be a money pit, 15 months...
