  1. Won't shift back into park normally/ no longer downshifts

    R230 SL-Class
Thanks, JettaRed. Yes, that is the culprit, no doubt. Car shifts fine automatically. I can no longer manually downshift. Thank you for sending the image of the part. Would it happen to also provide the part no.? Would save me a trip to the MBZ parts dept. If not, no worries. Thanks again. Mike
  2. Won't shift back into park normally/ no longer downshifts

    R230 SL-Class
My 05 SL500 no longer goes back into park while foot is on brake. If I release my foot off the brake, it goes easily. The cars also no longer downshifts while driving. I read somewhere (here) that there is a plastic piece (bushing?) in the shift linkage that breaks causing these symptoms. I can...
  3. Shifter sticks going into Park and won’t downshift anymore

    R230 SL-Class
I was referring to downshifting to a lower gear while driving. I will check out the article you referenced. Thanks.
  4. Shifter sticks going into Park and won’t downshift anymore

    R230 SL-Class
This is on my 05 SL500.
  5. Shifter sticks going into Park and won’t downshift anymore

    R230 SL-Class
This issue started a couple of years ago. I read somewhere, on this siteI believe, that there’s a plastic collar or part, attached to the linkage that will crack and break apart which causes the shifter to get hung up going into Park. You have to take your foot off the brake to allow the linkage...
  6. 1987 500SL US vs Euro info request

    R/C107 SL/SLC Class
I read that the Euro 85 500SL’s had aluminum components in the engine,(aluminum block?) and is an optimal version of the 107. Was the 87 500SL also a grey market car ? I thought the rectangular headlights might be an indicator but I may have found one locally but it has twin round headlamps...
  7. PowerBleeder reveals leak in reservoir sensor

    R/C107 SL/SLC Class
Simple Fix. I love it. Rather like getting in touch with the Jethro within. I don't know what's worse, the pressure applied by the Power Bleeder (only 15 psi) or the extreme pressure from mashing the brake pedal. I hear that that can seriously burden other brake components. See Ken S initial...
  8. PowerBleeder reveals leak in reservoir sensor

    R/C107 SL/SLC Class
While testing my new PowerBleeder for connection leaks with the unit empty, the reservoir which was full revealed a leak in the rear sending unit cap. After about 10 psi, air and fluid started coming out from beneath the black cap. Upon investigation, I noticed two thing about that cap. It spun...
  9. brake help

    R/C107 SL/SLC Class
I’m looking for the proper bleed sequence. RR first or LF? I’m finding both touted.
  10. 05 SL500 Replaced starter battery, keys not fully programmable

    R230 SL-Class
After replacing my starter battery ( with an OEM MBZ battery) I've been unable to reprogram my key fobs back to full functionality. The car isn't detecting them for remote ignition nor does the the door handle touch sensor unlock the door. The panic button also doesn't work but I've never tested...
  11. In case you didn't know.

    R/C107 SL/SLC Class
German Cars for German Dogs I agree that Shepherds love the back of the older SL's.Our other late model SL500 no longer has the flat rear deck to allow a dog to sit. Useless IMHO. When it got too difficult for my Shepherd to jump up in the SUV, I sold it and got my 85 380SL for him to step...
  12. my 380SL dies then starts a minute later

    R/C107 SL/SLC Class
My 85 380SL has died out right three times in the last two weeks. I'm dead in the middle of the road. I crank it and nothing. As if no fuel is getting to the engine. A minute or two later, it starts right up as if nothing happened and away I go. Twice this has occurred soon after pulling out...
  13. In need of a idle control valve!

    R/C107 SL/SLC Class
Yes, there is a difference. You need the correct part number. There are numerous discussions about all of the control elements that contribute to this elusive goal of a proper idle. When I bought my car, it had the wrong ICV, #1225. I bought a 1325 as well a control module and a relay to no...
  14. New Intake manifold seal rings w/broken rings

    R/C107 SL/SLC Class
To Strife2 Holy Cow. That engine is fantastic. You are wonderfully insane. Whatever you do, don't get it dirty. And thanks for the reply. I'm going to try new seal rings and see what happens.
  15. New Intake manifold seal rings w/broken rings

    R/C107 SL/SLC Class
I replaced the 8 seal ring gaskets aka intermediate piece (part# 117-140-0265) while doing the intake manifold gaskets. I bought the only ones available other than the MBZ oem's. MTC brand made in China. I was skeptical but oh, well. It's rubber, not electronics. After mounting the intake...
  16. Seeking Accelerator linkage Photo or illustration

    R/C107 SL/SLC Class
    Thanks. Rowdie.
  17. Seeking Accelerator linkage Photo or illustration

    R/C107 SL/SLC Class
I've just replaced my intake manifold gasket on my 85 380SL and putting everything back together. Had a two week delay so my recall of how the linkage is assembled is shot. I really thought The illustrations from my EPCnet.online account would be all I needed but as it turns out, they only go...
  18. replacing intake manifold gasket on 380SL

    R/C107 SL/SLC Class
Would someone know the correct pattern for replacing the intake manifold bolts as well as the correct torque? I believe it is 15 but would appreciate confirmation.
  19. replacing intake manifold gasket on 380SL

    R/C107 SL/SLC Class
Clarification to original post I see that my post was a bit misleading. I was referring to any gaskets for the fuel injection assembly. I have my manifold gaskets already. And thank you very much for going through the trouble of logging on to EPC Online and pasting the image and all. I have an...
