    Thanks, JettaRed. Yes, that is the culprit, no doubt. Car shifts fine automatically. I can no longer manually downshift. Thank you for sending the image of the part. Would it happen to also provide the part no.? Would save me a trip to the MBZ parts dept. If not, no worries. Thanks again. Mike

    A spare is a great idea. I'm a firm believer in carrying spare belts and even so far as an extra fuel or water pump in the trunk if traveling- to BF and beyond. I was illustrating that there's more than one way to come up with a remanufactured relay.
