Yarr I will tell you that I never drive over 100kph due to tire concerns (actually 57mph = 91-92kph) except for short periods. Not a problem in Australia, Eurasia, Alaska or even Canada. Only an issue in the lower 48 on Interstate Highway. At 57mph rpm is 1850. I suppose 1530 would be better...

Actually the inverse of the 14th root of 13.01 is0.8325

In other words the gear ratio is 0.82:1. The square root of the 7th root of the gear spread 13.01 is 0.83 so I suspect that’s why they picked 0.82

I meant 1600 if 0.82 New forum won’t allow editing evidentially.

I am FULLY cognizant of the speed issue. The idea is to drop rpms at 60mph to 1520 if the ratio is 0.78 or 1600 if 0.78. I wonder how it would work with EAS (automated shifting). Maybe a nightmare.

I “might” be interested. My U500NA turns 1950rpm at 60mph with 395s . A question that has NEVER been answered: what is the actual ratio of the Claas. I don’t want to hear “22%”. Is it 0.78 or 0.82???? And what is the cost?

The “heavy duty” 270a Leece Neville has an unreliable un replaceable divorced rectifier. I replaced mine after 2-3 rectifier failures with a 240a clone of the 28si Delco type that you have . After 20000 mi/600hr it’s been good. For a spare I have a genuine Delco 200A. I recommend in general to...
  8. CTIS in use questions

I could take a picture but the EPC is better. There’s the through hub fitting with quick disconnect and then the steel braided hose with quick disconnect. Be sure to use a valve piece with large threads. And use a headlock if possible with your wheels. Don’t forget the proper code plug for your...
  9. Do the large portals require breather mods for sustained high-speed driving?

    Unimog
Right rear, not left. I have the Atlas system and for the next 8k miles after the portal work the temperature difference between right and left didn’t vary more than 2 deg C.
  10. Do the large portals require breather mods for sustained high-speed driving?

    Unimog
I had it only on the left rear. It may have been a faulty sealed bearing because after a German Mog dealer near Karlsruhe rebuilt the portal it has been Ok for 8k miles
  11. What kind of Unimog do I want?

    Unimog
Like I KEEP SAYING the 16Lx24 wheel is a stock MB part: A405 401 2001 10 bolts fits on a U500 and therefore U1700/2150/2450 etc
  12. What kind of Unimog do I want?

Can’t find the reference but I know I’ve seen Mercedes OEM 24x16 10 bolt wheels (originally for UGN like my and later U500/530) with either 110 or 90mm offset. BTW if one uses MPT tires like XZL I recommend Hutchinson wheels with internal beadlocks, to safely use very low pressure for flotation...
  13. What kind of Unimog do I want?

    Unimog
I was happy to read that you are “good with 55mph”. As far as flotation at max load/pressure 395s have a flate plate/footprint of 144 sq in, 14.00s about the same, 16.00s 205, 495s 252. Be aware that the 495s have a load rating of only 155, 7760 kg/axle and you may be tire limited what you can...

Michelin XZL are also available in 14.00R20 (49.5”) and 16.00R20 (52.9”). 14.00s are limited to 62mph, 16.00s 55. 395:85R20 XZL2 are rated at 68mph. I hope you aren’t one of those hypothetical Mog buyers that “want to drive my Mog at 75mph”
