Window trim issues

I have a 2019 GLC with the chrome-like window trim that has become discolored. I think it may have been caused by having the clear coat protectant put on the vehicle after i purchased it. I was advised the the service manager (a total ass) at my local Fields dealership, its caused by acid rain and pollution! He also advised me Mercedes used inferior products on their window trim! is this a common problem with this type of trim?
