Hopefully MB will note this problem and install some fine bristle materiel, (like they
used to have on side windows), to keep stuff from sliding into oblivion.
I lost a turnpike receipt to the hungry console. Lesson learned.

This is a common problem with sliding lid covers. Unless it is inclined from the top, stuff gets caught in it. I have it in my honda pilot but not in my range rover sport.

My brand new GLK cover worked fine on the test drive. When I went back to pick it up, it did not open. Apparently, the guy who washed the car for pick up had his building access card on there and it slid under.

Pretty common I think. Poor design.

Thank you very much for the trouble shooting and solution. It worked like a charm for the same problem in my 2014 GLK. I never would have been brave enough to try and pry off that trim without knowing it would come off. It took a bit more force than I expected and I would have quit for fear of breaking the plastic. Removed the obstruction and it now works like it's suppose to. The only thing I would add is that the clips on the trim plate in step one are in the top corners and along each side near the bottom. There is also one (or two ?) more along the bottom edge between the corners and one or two more along the top edge. I started from a top corner. Thanks again for your post.

How did you remove the trim plate? They want to charge me $300.00 and that is just plain nuts!
