I have a 2017 GLS550 in porcelain designo leather interior. The 2 front seats are showing signs of cracking mostly at the bolsters. With the leather color being light, it just looks more noticeable and plain ugly. I had the same issue on my 15 GL but it was brown designo so not as noticeable. I only use the MB leather foam cleaner/protector ($30) hoping it would at least protect my seats from such issues.
I complained to my dealer, and they were quick to shrug it off under normal wear and tear. If you ask me, I call it premature wear esp when it happens in the first 2 years and under original warranty. I escalated to MBUSA and they contacted my dealer to get more info and simply could not do anything about it, saying leather seats are not covered. They did however offer me a discount towards my next MB purchase which I politely declined, as I am certain there will not be another MB purchase based on my experience and the low quality of what is supposed to be MB’s top of line leather quality coming from a brand that claims to be the “best or nothing”. Ive only driven MBs over the past 15 years and witnessed the sad drop in quality and even lowered my expectations recently, but this is where I draw the line.
Looking at the seats again, I found one area that seems to show tunneling pattern in the leather, which I did not mention in my previous complaints since I had not noticed it at that point. Does that change anything as far as coverage?
I am wondering if there are others on here with similar issues, and what course of action was taken to resolve this. The price to replace each seat cover is $1200 for the part alone, which is simply not an acceptable compromise for me to pony up the cost.
