GL "sport brakes" vs regular brakes

I have the sport package on my GL and "sport brakes" in indicated in the package. As far as I know there is no difference in brakes between the regular GL350 with no sport package and the one with sport package. So I am trying to figure out what is the "sport" part. As far as I know all 4 are drilled rotors with floating calipers.

Anyone have any clues?

Unhappy

According to the MB Canada "What's new for MY2013 GL-Class info (your sales rep should have this info/I received it back in April) on page 23 (Technical data) the front brakes on the GL550 are 375 mm. On the GL350 they are 350 mm. Since the GL550 comes standard with the "sport package", I assume the GL350 with sports package would have the same 375 mm discs. The rear discs on both are 345 mm.
The bad news for me is my GL350 is still delayed. The sales manager says another 30 days. Delayed at the factory but not sure why???

I don't think it has anything to do with the diameter of the disks, sales rep doesn't know what it is..... My car goes into production in February and delivery in Mid to late March.............

If you have the 'AMG Exterior Sports Package' then according to the information I have the disc on that package are '19" sports brakes with perforated braked discs and brake calliper covers with "Mercedes Benz" lettering'. The package also includes 21" wheels and it would seem that these are required to clear the 19" brakes with the standard brakes necessarily being smaller as they allow for 18" wheels.

However the document I am quoting was printed back in February!

iano: I know the document you are referring to, but I think that must be a mis-print. I doubt it would be physically possible to have a 19" brake disc, plus caliper, even inside a 21" wheel. The info I have, plus the latest Motor Trend magazine hi-lighting the GL as SUV of the year, all show 14.8" front brake discs on the GL 450/550 and I assume on the 350 with "sports package".
Apparently my GL350 was shipped on Nov. 2 so hopefully in the next 2 - 3 weeks, I will be able to see for myself, as I ordered it with the "sports package".

I know for a fact that all Gl's in Canada come with the drilled rotors and MB name on the calipers, Mercedes Marketing is giving me a migraine.

Regardless I orderd it with the sport package, although I would have been happier with 20 inch rims ( 5% softer ride according to MB stealership). 20x 10.5 would have been great ( like the older ML63)

It has to be at least a 'misleading print'
You are very clearly right - 19" brakes cannot mean 19" discs - so what does it mean?
And as for the 'perforated bake discs' and callipers with 'mercedes benz lettering' the document I was referring to does not say that these appear ONLY on the AMG sports package version. sigh! . . mercedes marketing migrane.....i fear it could be contagious
