I changed my transfer case fluid shortly after I purchased my GL in 2017. It was black. My independent said it had likely never been changed.

MBZ says the transfer case fluid is good for lifetime, what they mean by lifetime is that when it breaks it's lifetime is over and time to see them and guy a new mercedes. $$$$$ They said that about transmissions, as well, what a moronic statement to think that any transmission will never need service. Planned obsolete = Breakdown, Maintenance = Long lasting. Still better cars than most, one just needs to be smart about things and maintenance will make anything last longer!

I just changed the front and rear differential fluid on my GL 450. Oil was close to black. Quite an easy job and I used Mobil 1 75W-90.

In a few days I am changing fluid in both differentials and both transfer cases and also the little air filter for the Airmatic, in my 2008 GL450.

You refer to both transfer cases. I thought there's only one. Where is the 2nd transfer case?

Transmission Fluid Change - Balancing Car

I used my Quick Jack to lift the GL 450 while I change the transmission fluid. I need the transmission fluid pan to be level so I can take accurate measurement of the fluid.

Anybody ever used a Quick Jack? How did you level the car?

I asked two shops how much cost to change the fluid in the transfer cases, one said $89 each... the other said $95 and that to their knowledge, there was only one. I know for sure there are two differentials..

There are 2 differentials and one transfer case in the GL. I just changed the fluid in both differentials and I used Mobil 1 75W-90. Easiest job you could possibly handle by yourself - just 2 bolts.

The transfer is also simple - just 2 bolts and it uses transmission fluid. It's too simple to pay someone.
