GL550 Repair Advice

Started noticing a chemical smell several months ago from my 2010 MB GL550 (77K Miles). Car as been well maintained, single owner.
A service place has suggested that the AC system is leaking both the gas refrigerant and oil… and we are likely smelling the oil.

He shares that MB builds the car around the system, and as a result access for repair and replacement is extremely difficult. Noting the entire dashboard must be taken out, etc… with cost estimates of 5K

Can this be so??? Is it possible the compressor is the core issue, and that it simply needs to be replaced? Is there a means of repairing rather than replacing the entire system?

Honestly it depends on what is wrong with it. If it is leaking from the heater core or another component inside the dash then yes it will be expensive as you need to remove the dash to get to that. The compressor is not too hard to get to. I would have a good independent test the system and give you an exact breakdown of what they say needs to happen. Run the actual finding by us here on the forum for advice.

Thank you.... Will definitely have another check on it, and come back. Deeply appreciated.
