Two Hundred Thousand!

Hit 200,000 miles earlier this week.

2012 R350 bought used with 45k miles on it in 2016 for $17K plus tax title etc.

So far only consumables like oil changes, brakes and tires, one battery, plus, of course, replacing those effing rear air suspenders with good old fashioned coil springs ($600).

Persistent death rattle from one of the timing chains on start-up has been going on for at least 60k miles so I'm not going to worry about it.

Front wheel bearings getting noisy and catalysts need replacing. Steering wheel tilt switch hasn't worked properly since I bought it, replacement in the drawer already for if / when I decide to replace it. Inside tailgate release lever needs fixing.

Congratulations!
Question - do you see oil consumption between servicing?

^ About a quart every 10,000 miles, no real change since I first bought it, and thankfully no "Sink the Bismark!" smokescreens going down the freeway either.

I've always used Mobil1 high mileage 0w40 or 5w40 and always changed the filter with the engine oil. Never bothered changing the transmission fluid, differentials or transfer case, and at this mileage to do so could possibly do more harm than good.

Power seems a little down from new(er) but that could just be down to me or the catalysts needing changing - the check engine light appears on warm days, not so often on cooler ones.

Meh. If they were handing out discount vouchers against a new one...

I have 155k miles on my 2010 I bought with 8,000 miles. I plan on going over 200k. I have a few more repairs than you, but not really very much.

I have no idea what to eventually replace it with. Neither a large SUV or a minivan appeal to me.

On the basis that the chassis remains rust free and the interior good, I just hope to pick up a same year or slightly later ML350 engine (my 2012 uses the same unit) maybe trannie too and do a transplant when the time comes. Going rate for a reasonable mileage one out of a totaled ML is $1500 to $2000 and I reckon on another $1000 to $1500 for the transplant. A new drivers seat pad may be nice though...
