Rear hatch won't stay open

I have been noticing that my rear lift gate has been slowly coming down as we remove item from the back. Today I had lifted the gate and it shout down on me as I let it go.......No more pressure to keep it up

Does anyone know the part numbers or have a Removal & Install guide on this?

The parts are available from the dealer only. We just replaced the left and right strut for our customers R350 with a manual tailgate 2 weeks ago, its a very expensive job as the headliner needs to come down. The dealer is charging somewhere around $1500, we did it for less than a thousand at our shop. The savings was in labor, the dealership labor rate is ridiculous now a days.

I just replaced the tailgate struts on my R500 and did it all in for $360. I bought a pair of MAGNETI MARELLI (P/N GS1004) struts off of Amazon for $60 and then found a auto upholstery shop here in Utah to drop the headliner and install the struts. The labor for dropping the headliner and installing the struts was $300. I was a little skeptical about buying non-MB struts, but these work like a charm and cost a fraction of the dealer price.

what other symptoms of bad struts are you having? My tailgate stays open fine.
The only problem is that it on opening the latch releases, but the hydraulic pump does not engage, so the latch shuts again.
If I open manually and give the handle a slight tug the pump engages and all is good.
The dealer says it was the struts, I say its that latch again.
what say you?

Fortunately or unfortunately, i have the Saks edition R500 which didn't come with power tailgate, so my problem was limited to the struts not keeping the tailgate up.

I'm having the same problem with my R320 CDI. Usually it cures itself, but now the hydraulic pump just is not engaging. Anyone have ideas on the fix?

My Latch was replaced once on warranty for same symptoms. Occasionally the pump does not engage now also.. I still think it is the latch that, after un locking must send a signal to the pump. Some sensor, SAM, or switch in the latch. At this time it is not a priority. It is still easy to lift the gate by hand.

We have a snow storm today and had to pick up the kids at our local ski hill. This is why I have an R320! Safest car around in bad weather conditions!
