I hear ya...

I guess that's why they had to state the WSG case on my worksheet. What the hell is a WSG anyway?

Thanks for the info.

Difference between "jerky upshift" vs "rough downshift"?

RDriver, have you taken your R in yet?
Chucelli - Not yet but I will when I bring my car in for the Service A at 10,000 mile (in a month to two). I'll post afterward.

Chucelli / or Anyone - What have you experienced with the "rough downshift to 1"? Does it happen all the time? When it does, is it "mild", "medium", or "hard"? Mine is very "mild" and happens 25% of the time (coming to the stops), which makes me feel that it is "normal" until I read/saw BenzOrama post.

For jerky up shifts of 2-3 or 3-4, going uphill at slow speeds, I have had 3 software updates (at 800 miles, 2000 miles, and 6,800 miles). Those are gone, and up shifting is very smooth except for very occasional jerks (once in evey 2 to 3,000 miles).

But this jerky "upshift" from 2-3 I assume is different than the rough "downshift" from 2-1, coming to a stop. And, I plan to take it up to the SM for a "valve body" replacement, based on BenzOrama advice.

Anyone with either upshift/downshift experience, please share.

RDriver,
I feel my 2-1 downshift every time when stopping but I would say it's "mild", meaning right before reaching a complete stop, it will feel like all the sudden the car breaks harder for the last 10 MPH or so. If I brake VERY gently, to the point of almost riding the brakes, I can minimize that feeling of the 2-1 shift.
Other shifting anomalies I've noticed are very harsh shifting at certain times when I let off the throttle gently after a hard takeoff (or going up hill). I haven't yet been able to reliably reproduce that behavior however...
It may be the jerky upshifts you seem to be experiencing.
hope this helps.

also a rough 2-1 downshift doesnt necessarily mean you need a valve body or software update. adaptations have to be checked first because if your b1 and b3 clips have come apart in the transmission, it will cause a hard jerk right before you come to a stop. E classes and ML and R classes have been the most common cars that i have replaced clips in.

Does anyone get the rough shift from 1st - 2nd? I occasionally get the downshift from 2-1 but not enough to bother me. But what I do get is rough shifting from 1-2, its like 1st gear shifts too early. The rpm's only go to about 2000 rmps and than shifts to 2nd. This also affects acceleration because 1st is not getting drawn out long enough and I am loosing the powerband. Has anyone experienced this, if so does the updated sofware help?

Rough 1st 2nd is very common. Especially after software updates. It dove me crazy. I had a few trips to the dealer for that. I had to bring it to another dealer where the tranny specialist had to update both the ECU and Tranny software. I still feel it a bit but it is almost gone. The more you drive it the better it gets.

I spent a lot of time researching this issue. There is a software update that fixes these issues but it works only on the newer valve body. In other words if you have the old valve body you cannot use this current software version.

How do you know if you have a new one?
All '06s and '07's have the old valve, by default, unless been replaced?

Mind sharing more info on your researching.
Thanks.

I was told that if you have the bad older valve body you the car won't take the newest software version.
