OIL CHANGE - 2006 B200 Base (Canada)

Hello -

Might anyone have an image of the oil pan drain plug for the 2006 B200? I can't seem to find a definitive answer or image for this. I'm pretty sure I know which screw I need to remove, but I'd like confirmation from someone who has actually completed this themselves.

Many thanks!
M.

Welcome aboard M....

I'm too lazy to crawl under right now... but why don't you post a pic of what you think might be the oil drain bolt. It's a 13mm bolt that's ~ 1 " long and won't fall out easily as you back it off. It's the only 13 mm bolt at the bottom of the large rectangular oil pan that has a copper washer on it to keep the oil seal. It's at the back edge of the oil pan. I know of one kind soul that actually drained part of the CVT by mistake. So do get it right..........

Have you found the nicely tucked away oil filter and cap..?? Remember that it's all plastic and torque it to only 25nm or ~7 ft-lbs.

BTW,..You'll need ~15"'s of extension to reach the oil filter..and a 27mm socket (I use a 1+1/16" socket and it works perfectly well too.) .........

Replace the large supplied "O" ring on the filter and the small supplied "O" ring on the middle of the oil filter cap nut. ...

......so do ask away if necessary...Good luck...

Why bother. Get an OIL extractor. See https://www.benzworld.org/forums/w245...-pro-shop.html

My WIS shows engine 170 in model W242 B200 NGT

Filling capacity - with oil filter = 5.8 liter
Torque of oil drain screw to oil pan = 30 Nm
Torque of filter cap to filter housing = 25 Nm

Engine oil to MB spec 229.3 or 229.5 as marked on the can.

Somebody posted a picture of the oil drain plug but I seem to be unable to find it.
Also how do you access it from the front, rear, drivers or passenger side.
I do not want to remove the wrong plug please help. TIA.
This is for my B200 not the SL 500

Well Jacko...it's not that hard to locate. The first time back in 06,..I simply looked at the oil pan and deduced which was the right plug/bolt to remove.

The 13mm hex plug is facing the rear of the car. It should have a copper washer where it contacts the squarish pan.(the only one with a copper washer on it)

It will be slightly different from the bolts around that area. It is quite long with many threads to back off. ,..and you might just notice a slight ridge in the bottom of the pan that should help you locate the right bolt.

Post a pic of your pan....and point it out for all...

Thank you for you prompt answer but I am attempting to do my own oil changes and have not looked at the pan yet but now I know it is located towards the rear of the car I will find it.
Dealer wants $180+tax to change oil and filter.
Any suggestions on what kind of oil to use, TIA Jake
