Ya, only if the transmission itself had issues, then yes.

TCU being the culprit, its the only thing being authourized for R&R.

TCU is on back order.

Wife going in later to find out more.
So Ghost, great news. But who's fixing this for you? MB? or Indie?

Dealer. Indies dont have the high end scan tool to "program" the tcu when installed. Two of them both told my wife the dealer has to do this repair.

Wow, this might be precedence setting. If MB will do this work, we can all get them to do it when the TCU fails. Or you might just be in luck and get a new tranny. MB, not really known for fixing things, just replacing parts. And I don't think the TCU is sold as a separate part. It's packaged in the CVT.

So there you go, only when a third party has to pay for it, suddenly a more economical option becomes available. I can't remember any message from dealers other than "the whole CVT needs to be changed" when this problem arises for Joe or Jane Customer without warranty.

Maybe under factory warranty and maybe as a precautionary measure due to self destructing cvts in the early stages? As time went on maybe the cvts are generally ok, but the electronics become the curse?

Car was finished later Friday afternoon (is that a good thing? lol) and the wife picked it up during lunch today.

They kept the part for core and the "new from Germany" part has a two year / unlimited kms warranty. Full service and inspection done as well.

Hopefully thats it for a while.

I get the car back Thanksgiving weekend when I head home. Not a fan of my wife's Jeep.
