Unfortunately not. The car remains in neutral even though the lever is in 'D'. No change when moving the lever left and right.

Hello, the B200 2005 remote lock/unlock key does not work. I changed the batteries, when locking/unlocking, the indicator on the key lights up. The IR rays out the key (I checked with my phone). Diagnostics does not detect errors. Maybe you had a similar problem and how did you solve it?

I also live in Ottawa, and I have the alternator replaced twice within 11 months apart. Look like the water splashed beneath the car (during the raining season), and where the alternator locates there, and no cover to protect the alternator from water.
How did the M-B Canada reply? This is the common issue of this car.

Dom

First post from me in Ottawa, Canada. Spouse has a 2011 B200 with 47000km that's been relatively trouble-free (except for those squeaky rear brakes) until now, when its alternator failed. Had a burning plastic smell under the hood and the battery symbol illuminated on the dash display. I came searching on here to see if it's a common problem or not. It doesn't appear to be from what I've seen, though it has been mentioned.

Of course, the car is 6 months out of warranty now, so we wound up paying $730 for the part and $500 for the labour. Naturally, we are not happy about this. I've owned Japanese cars that were 10 years old or more and I've never had to replace an alternator on any of them. We intend to write to M-B Canada about it, so we'll see if anything comes of that. Comments welcome!

thanks
John

How did the M-B Canada reply? This is the common issue of this car, and spent too much money for the 2 alternators replacement.

Dom

Could you show us a photo of the alternator in place under your car? I thought that there WAS a cover that protected the whole belt from splash ups, and the alternator was at the back end of that cover...

A photo or 2 of that underbody area would be great.

Mine arced out on itself during a massive meltdown a deep puddle and suspecting a buildup of road salt finished it off. My thread is here somewhere. lol

Thanks for that video .

If travelling through deep water, there could easily be a splash up into the alternator and that's with the cover in place. That cover protects the side belt and pulleys but leaves some access to view the alternator.
