W221 Radio COMAND NTG3 Problem

Hello, I'm new here. I'm from Europe, saying just in case The car I have is S-Class W221 2006.
I have a problem with my radio COMAND NTG3. I was looking for the solution everywhere but none answerd me and I didn't find out how to solve this.

When I drive and listen my music from SD card with PCMCIA adapter and also when I listen to radio stations, from time to time the radio just stop playing. Randomly just stop for like 3 seconds and play again. It looks like I pause the radio, everything stops and I can't do nothing during this 3 seconds. Sometimes when I start the car, wait for the music it doesn't do anything. It looks like the radio tries to run/load music. I see on COMAND unit the name of a folder with music and those lines for each other mp3 file but it doesn't start. I have to turn off the car and wait a little bit then start it again and everything works fine.

I thought and someone told me that this could be the amplifier in the back of a car (I have the Harman/Kardon) so I changed it for another one that works 100% fine because I took it from my friends car. It doesn't help still the same problem.

Now I'm thinking about 2 options:
- the radio unit where are CD/DVD changer and place for PCMCIA card is fault (but how to repair it?),
- or what is more likely for me I have to do the Telematic update of COMAND at my dealership. I don't have also the Bird's Eye View.

Tell me am I right or what else I have to do, because it is so anoying.

Best regards!

I suggest updating. Note, dealer should include Xentry diagnostics in the process before updating to identify any fault codes.

Your first post pretty much identified the options, since there are no fault codes. You seem to already be aware of the approaches that our responses could offer, since 1) we have not seen this particular problem before, and 2) we cannot troubleshoot it or run diagnosis over the internet. Unfortunately, we do not have any threads showing a teardown or repair of the unit that seems to be at fault.

The repair shops I am aware of are in the US - but if they are any help to you, they are listed in the blue backgrounded area at the top of the first forum age, in a "sticky" dealing with component level repair of Mercedes electronics.

Agreed!

Also unless you've had your car connected to the SDS you may not see all of the fault codes stored and current. A simple OBDII scan will not show you all of them. Konigstiger's advice is what I would follow because; Konig's advice is gold, and it makes sense that a firmware update can solve this issue. This can only be done via SDS (any minute now the Chinese will prove me wrong) which is why to get the car scanned and updated via SDS.

Thanks, then I will sign up to my dealer to get the update
Sometimes, really rarely I have the issue, as I wrote in the 1st post, that the COMAND can't read the music. I have to turn off the engine wait a while and start it again. It looks that I don't have the FM station, Nav works, and SD card doesn't start. Looks like the amp BUT as I said before I changed it for 1000% good because I took it from friends vehicle.
Could it be something wrong that I took it from W221 model years 2009-2013? I mean the number is fresher. He get my old amp to his car and everything works good :P
