Passenger Side External dipping Mirror

Hi All

My newly Purchased W221 MY10 S500 - S550 in the US does not appear to have the feature where the pasenger side mirror can be set to show the rear tyre to assist with parking when reverse gear is engaged.

My W220 S500 had this and so does my Wife's CLK280, I was under the impression that this was standard equipment on all Mercedes ?

Is there something wrong with my car ?

Or do some W221's not have this feature ?

I would appreciate some feedback from members on the W221 Forum on this.

Thanks for any help.

Regards

Both of my W221s (including a '10) have had it, Ralph, as did my W220s. One trick is that the mirror position for reverse must be set while the car is in reverse gear; the other, which you probably already know, is that after setting the mirror position, the mirror select button must be left in the passenger side mirror position for the feature to work.

No doubt you have your owner manual, and having followed your posts for years I know you have read it - but the steps can be complicated, so here is a page from my '10 manual.

My 2008 has this as well, works as Skylaw mentioned above.

Actually, now that I think about it my '01 E430 and '95 S420 had it as well.

Hi Warren

Thanks for your reply.
Yes I have read my manual and followed the instructions the only difference being RHD I used Button 4. My manual said 3 but I assumed that Button 4 was correct for RHD.

One thing I have noticed is that the selection buttons on my W221 do not latch/stay down like the W220 and the indicator light on the button goes off after a while.
The fact that my switch is not latching (light staying on) is probably the problem, any ideas on the cause.

I had my Indi test the Aux Battery and it is showing voltage slightly low in SDS test but this could be due to lack of use of the car prior to when I purchased it.

PS
I was very sad to hear about Eric he gave me valuable help with my W220 and he will be missed, from all I have read he was an interesting character.

Regards
Ralph

I don't have any really good ideas; have you tried the "memory button" procedure?

Also, I'd replace that 12v aux battery if there are any concerns over it.

Hi Warren
Thanks for your reply.

Yes I tried the memory button procedure, same result.

Spoke to my Indi about his test of the Aux Battery and he said he got 12.4 V which I would assume is OK ?
He also said there were no fault codes coming up.

Is there an SDS Test I can run ?

My manual that came with the car has LHD Instructions !!!
So I would like to hear from any RHD Owners as to their experience with this dipping feature.

Thanks for any help

Hi all

I just changed the Aux Battery and that has improved some problems I was having with retaining Vehicle settings in Comand but no difference with dipping of passenger side mirror in reverse for parking assistance.

I have noticed that even if I adjust to extreme down and towards the side of the car I can not see the rear wheel, so I am wondering if having blind spot sensors in the mirrors restricts the movement and therefore No dipping function if you have blind spot detection ?

Does anyone have both dipping Passenger Mirror for reversing and Blind Spot detection ?

I would Like to Know if I should have this feature ASAP as my car only has 3 months Warranty.

Thanks for any Help.

Have passenger side door control unit software checked i.e.: reinitialize, update using SDS I believe the path is: Control units - Seats and Doors - Door control module front left (right) - Control unit adaptations - Control module programming.
