2010 S550 BLUETOOTH AUDIO

Hi,
I was told that you can activate your bluetooth audio on the S550's to play music via your phone without buying an external bluetooth device. Does anyone have any idea how this is done?

Not sure what the COMAND version in your 2010 S550 would support, but it is my understanding that in order to have Bluetooth audio in the W221 you have to use a Bluetooth adapter like the Bovee or a similar unit.

Like this; https://www.amazon.com/Bovee-Bluetoo.../dp/B074CP7MNY

This is what I use in my car, but my COMAND is the earlier version and yours is the later.

I've done extensive search on this topic, and never found evidence of the possibility to stream directly from the phone. I have a 2010 / facelift, and just bought the Bovee 1000. It works really great with my Android phone. No song title in cardisplay, but thats no big deal (and you get it with an Iphone)

Sowari Wicox will have a COMAND 3.5 system, which would usually have the Multimedia Interface (MMI).

The Tune2Air 1000 should plug into the 30-pin connector for an iPod, if Sowari Wilcox has MMI, and the iPod cable already installed.

He can also use the Tune2Air 3000 - https://www.amazon.com/Bovee-WMA3000.../dp/B00S320660 - which has the correct MMI plug to replace the 30-pin cable in the MMI connector.

Both devices are designed to allow A2DP music streaming via the MMI input, and also allow bluetooth telephony via the MB phone system. However, music selection will have to be done on the phone itself. Unlike an iPod, which would be plugged in, control of music selection is not available through Bluetooth.

Thanks Skylaw! I was starting to justify purchasing a 2013 W221 just to understand the NTG 3.5. You've kept me out of the doghouse.

Currently using the Tune2Air. Be aware that a common problem is dropouts when listening to music. It is not unusual that the connection makes a skip and drops out for half a second or so. Quite annoying when listening to music. Overall it is a good solution but as said not completely problem free.

I found it easier to just load MP3s. I'm using a DVD right now and it holds a lot. I just picked up the PCMCIA/SD card and may start using that.

So, in my experience this is due to the other apps on the device (phone/tablet) demanding priority to alert you. A text, email or other alert is typically set at a higher priority for the internal sound queue and so will interrupt your music. If you mute the phone it should alleviate a lot of this and you will still be notified of an incoming call via the MB Phone System. Texts ... well that's not something anyone should be doing while driving.

MP3s are indeed a great choice! If you want to really hear what this audio system can do, get your hands on a DTS 5.1 DVD-Audio disc and turn off the Faux Surround sound. It's AMAZING!

Check out this thread @TiffanyTwisted started, pretty cool stuff!

2008 S550 Base: I use the Bovee. I purchased it on Amazon for about $50, I think... It may have been around $80. It works like a charm. I have an android Galaxy S9+ the steering controls work fine. I'm able to connect my calls via the MB phone thingy in my center console and music through the Bovee. I don't get Artist/Song Title Info when using my phone. But when I connect it to my iPad Pro that information is displayed in the speedo read out area. I haven't had any issues with it at all. No drop in music that I read the Tune2Air does.
Hope this helps you to decide.
