where to buy trunk lock cylinder? keys locked in trunk

Hi all

I have a w221 2007 s320 cdi (UK)

Placed a birthday cake in the trunk and rearranged some drink in boxes to ensure they did not tumble, closed the trunk, saw the lights flash as the system rearmed, then realised to my horror that the keys were still inside the trunk. Worse still, the spare was in the centre console (crazy I know, I had meant to take it out)

Phoned my dealer, they informed me that mercedes assist would get me in free of charge, phoned mercedes assist, they said that as the car was over 3 years old they would instead charge me £187 (approx 300 bucks) to get me in, out of principle after being told it was free, i declined.

After hours fiddling with wires with door prised ajar, pressing all unlock buttons to no avail, and even hooking strong kite line round the inner handle, then pulling it, only to see the button pop up but door stay firmly locked, I cracked and attacked the trunk lock with various implements in an attempt to gain entry to the trunk. After a while the trunk lock just turned freely but did not open. I guess the security is better than I thought.

I then gave up and ordered the metal emergency key which will be here in 4 days, I hope that will work on the deadlocked front doors (can anyone confirm this) and also hope that the spare really is in the centre console else I am still stuck because I won't be able to get into the trunk (unless anyone has any ideas there)

Once I'm in and have the keys, does anyone know where I can get trunk lock cylinder from, I'm not really bothered if its not keyed to the car, it has never been used and will unlikely ever be used again (still have the black power on it that wiped off when you use it), I just want it to look as it did before this saga started

thanks for any and all advice, hope nobody else is as foolish as me when they're loading the truck with the main car locked and no available spare

Terry

You should have just paid the roadside assistance bill or you could have joined a private roadside club (like AAA here in the US). They would have used a slim-jim and been inside the car in 5 minutes or less, with absolutely no damage. Why you decided to pick at the lock and risk damaging it and/or the paint is beyond me. That was a very bad choice.

Now you will have to pay for a new trunk lock, a new flat blade key, and for any other damaged you caused to the car. Also, I don't believe you locked the other key inside the cabin of the car. The car would not have allowed the doors to lock the smart key inside the cabin.

I agree (with hindsight) that I should have paid the bill , I was just peeved they said it would be free then hiked it.

I hope the other key is there last time I saw it it was, it definitely lets you lock the car with one of the spares inside, it is not keyless go, not sure if that makes any difference

Of course you can open the doors with the metal key. It is a bit different on a W221, have a look at the manual if you are not familiar with it (if your manual is in the car, browse the on-line manual).

The alarm should fire up but not much you can do about it. Try to find the other key and insert it to the ignition slot.

You could open the trunk with the metal key too but if the lock cylinder is broken, it may not work.

I'm not sure if the button at the drivers door opens the trunk if ignition is not on.
