Moving on to something new...

Well guys - it finally happened. I just sold the car to my niece (her first car). This has been the best riding vehicle I have ever had, the last few months the car was absolute dream to drive.

However - let's go back in time to a couple months ago. My wife never did like driving the MB, and really really hated driving the Cobra. The minivan was always her go to vehicle. There was a problem that showed up a few months ago when here minivan was down due to the transmission going into limp mode - and needed some repairs. It was then that we realized the MB was not big enough to carry my whole family of 6, so we had to take 2 cars anywhere we all had to go. So we thought of a solution - that was to get a second car that could carry all 6 of us if needed - but wouldn't be all the time - so it didn't need to be really "family comfortable".

We initially looked at MB R-Class, even test drove a few. We both liked them, but neither was in love with it. Then we looked at the E-Class Wagons with the jump seats. I really liked the E-Class wagons, but my wife hated the idea (don't know why - but she really hates wagons). So we were thinking about it, and came to the idea of selling both the S430 and the Cobra to get something a little crazy - Tesla Model S with jump seats among other options.

The Tesla proved to be somewhat a unicorn based on the specific options we demanded of it. It took a while to find, but after 6 weeks of hunting we found a 2015 Model S P85D. It has the jump seats in the back (like the E-Class) but it's a hatchback - so somehow it is okay... As soon as the Tesla was home, the MB went on sale. Here I am 8 days later and my sister in law called to buy the S430 as a first car for my niece (sale will actually happen soon).

Side note - my wife absolutely fell in love with the Model S - and she puts it in Insane mode every time she drives it. I'm loving the fact that she finally likes my car enough to steal it from me at times.

I'll say the MB still is the most comfortable car in my fleet - and I have a feeling I'll miss that smooth ride. The Tesla in comparison has a sportier/stiffer ride. The Tesla is just a different beast of a car - and one I feel is a great replacement that combines the comforts of the MB along with the speed demands that make the Cobra so much fun (I'll miss the dramatic/loud exhaust though).

I'm sure I'll be back here in the future to assist with some repair that will come up in the future. But for now just wanted to say thanks for the fun and great advice provided over the last few years. It has made my ownership of the MB possible.

Edit: not sure why this forum rotates my images 180 degrees - sorry if the image is upside down.

I think the Tesla is a little shorter and wider than the W220. Second row seats do not have the leg room compared to the LWB W220. However, the Tesla has a 3rd row of seats - rear facing jump seats. They are small, best used for kids under 75 pounds; but with those seats the Tesla has seating for 7 passengers.

I didn't realize that they had an Australian version...

The S is probably my dream car - but so far I have carefully avoided looking at one or driving one ($$$$$$).

Well, MB is not wanting to go?

I drive from Murphy to Killeen to deliver the car to be niece (little less that 200 miles). Car was absolutely perfect.

Tell my niece that we should go on a drive so I can show her the ins and outs of the car. She is really liking the car when all of a sudden everything electronic turns off. I pull into a parking lot and it all comes back.

I think that's weird. Shut down, start back up. It all seems normal.

Get to about 35MPH and it happens again. Something is amiss.

I shut down and restart again but put the voltage on screen. Shows 13V and all is well. Start driving and car black outs again! But this time I see the voltage jump to 18V before it black outs.

Now suspect bad alternator...
Shut down, park and call for a tow.

My luck sucks lately!

Silver lining. At least it didn't happen after the sale with your niece stuck somewhere. That would've mightily sucked. You have the knowledge to troubleshoot and fix whatever it is, whereas she probably doesn't.

I'm 200 miles from home with no tools. So I sent it to Firestone and pray they don't suck my wallet dry. But you are right, I'm glad it happened while I was there.

How many miles are on the W220?
After reading this my Spidey senses are telling me I should check my alternator. I'm at 124K miles.

And that's a very nice looking Tesla!
