Buying an SDS 4 - Try to Buy Old Version?

I have a chinese SDS 3 and have been pleased with its ability to diagnose problems. I've been thinking about buying an SDS 4 as well. It seems like most sellers just have the latest cracked software. But, if I understand it correctly, older versions of Xentry also give the ability to change values as well unlike the new versions, unless you purchase an API key. I see the utility in that ability to change values in that the values for the TPMS alerts in one of my cars are all over the place, 4 different values, one for each tire.

Has anyone had any luck buying an SDS 4 with older Xentry software? Are there any sellers on Alibaba or other marketplaces that anyone recommends? When I bought my SDS 3, I went with someone who had some good ratings, and who also answered questions quickly and in good English. Everything worked out OK, but I am always open to trying another provider.

Mercedes Benz, they are addictive, 97 E420, 98 S420, 06 S500 and an 11 S550.

I'm on 4th purchase from same seller. No issues at all.

Not sure what you mean, all the latest software does not remove any features from previous xentry. W220 uses DAS, and MB hasn't updated or otherwise made changes to DAS since 2012. So 2019 software as of now still carries DAS that was last updated in 2013. It is Xentry that is adding and removing features...but I doubt you'd be interested in that, because Xentry starts as of W204 and up.

Hi,

Just to add to this, 2016 is about the best one out there for future purchases of a later model MB, but it still has the HHT Win Emulator for things like my R170, on which half the modules still need HHT

My "old" 2012 s/w with C3 Mux will go up to vehicles around 2012 MY, so unless you are like me and working on newer Cars you don't really need a new one, you could always just buy a C4 Mux and leads and it should be able to work with your old s/w with a little config

HTH,

Common misconception Dave, HTTwin is locked to x86 windows...in other words, 32-bit only. So if you have a 32-bit OS, you can add httwin.

Thing is, all new HDDs that come out are x64, so no httwin. You have to specify that you want httwin, so they will ship the x86 version.

Hi @Deplore ,

Ahh OK, my new 2017 doesn't have it but that is running 64 Bit with 8Gb RAM on a D630 now as the D830 pooped itself irrepairably

Cheers for that

I have use C4 Multiplexer on 2014 to 2019 versions no problems, I could not get HHTWin to work correctly above 2016 even if installed on 32 bit. Its also not a big deal I use 2016 if I need HHTWin.
I actually almost never use the 2019 version.
I don't think that any options are missing in the newer versions at least I have not found any yet.

I had to do some research to get a better hold of the concepts in my question. Here is a link to what I remember about coding, online versus offline coding:

MB Star DAS Xentry Online and Offline SCN coding | MBStarTool.com Official Blog

So if I am understanding it correctly, the older versions just checked offline;i.e., with the laptop, for authorization to code. The Chinese could supply that ability with the older software. But, now with the later version, in order to code, change the values you find, delete or add, (I just wanted to change, TPMS pressures alerts), the newer software checks online. If you don't have an authorization, you can't code (change) any values.

Perhaps I am not understanding it correctly?

This does still work in my 2018 version for DAS, for xentry vehicles you need Vediamo.

I'm not 100% sure but i don't think you need to purchase a code at all.

Hi,

I have always understood that the Chinese are referring to SCN Coding, not regular Version Coding, I have Vediamo but have never needed to use it, DAS or XENTRY on later Cars.

Does Vediamo do the SCN ( @Paul600600 ), or is Vediamo just for regular Version Coding ??

I'd rather find out now than when I need it in a hurry on a Friday afternoon
