Wally, sorry this is happening to you- sounds probable you received a defective product from Arnott.

Playing Monday morning quarterback- with the price of new Bilsteins near the same price of rebuild Arnotts, not sure why one should consider a Arnott. I know your replacement was a free warranty, but I have to assume the new Bilsteins have the latest and greatest revisions and no core charge- nothing to return,

Hope you get this sorted out soon Wally. I have also had quality control issues with Arnott, but once sorted out I have been happy with performance. My front right strutt was delivered with a faulty harness and we had to re-use the harness from the old strutt.

I wonder if the Bilsteins have the thicker Continental airbags that Arnott uses, though.

Hi,

/\ /\ /\ True, but let's face it the originals last an awful lot of miles, and even then they more often only fail after the dust boot has been split for a while

Yeah you had one problem, I had one problem, Wally seems to have one problem, my mechanic had three problems that I know off. I am sure if you did a search, there is plenty more people with problems Not knocking down Arnotts by all means. Great company but not so great QC unfortunately!!

My 2004 4Matic has the new manufacture Arnott struts on the front end. They have been exemplary, however, you give up two Airmatic settings as they are manufactured to operate only on Sport 1.

Hi, @NKJohn @doni01 @cowboyt @MikeKerr and everyone else ,

I think bearing in mind the last 2 posts especially, and the fact that Arnott are now selling these without the Adaptive Damping, then yeah, Arnott have had their days !!

No brainer for me too, new Billies it is as and when required

You know, given the price difference between new Bilsteins at Rock Auto vs. new-manufacture Arnott struts, I can see the point...on non-4Matic, i. e. RWD, cars.

For 4Matic cars, though, the price difference is several hundred dollars between Bilsteins and new-manufacture Arnotts, so I'd probably go for the Arnotts in that case. Since the lady and I happen to prefer the Sport 1 setting, that would work out pretty well for us.

I am wondering about the comfort difference between the new arnott without the adaptive damping, vs bilstein. I have 4 new arnott struts at the moment. The car seems to ride fine, but I wonder if I would notice a big difference with the bilsteins using airmatic comfort setting
