Thanks guys but I don't plan on replacing the whole axle because it obviously doesn't need it, and if I can replace the reluctor ring then I don't see how replacing the whole assembly would be a good idea. I think I found the part number, it looks like it is 210-357-00-82. They have it on mboemparts but no pictures included. For that price (around 7$), I cannot complain !

The part you have above is the ring for the rear axle of your car. I would check that they are the same size before ordering it.
For reference rear axle ring is A210 357 00 82.

Front axle no part number listed in the EPC.

For RWD rear same as above A210 357 00 82.
Front axle A022 997 97 47.

Thanks Dean,

Yeah, I should have stated that was a rear listing and just posted as an example, don't have hardly any spare time right now, but I'm sure one of those companies can supply the correct one, then again i wouldn't expect the MB one to be expensive

I have a 2004 S500 4Matic in Toronto. My front left reluctor ring broke a few weeks ago. The indie was not able to source just the ring so we ended up with a genuine remanufactured axle.

I am not sure how hard they are to get hold of.

Thanks
Oliver

How much did it cost you overall ?

I think I'll give a call to the stealership, just to see. In the worst case I could build my own ring, it's basically just metal, right ?

From memory it was $1200 for the axle and then $500 for labor. They said the dealer quoted them $2000 for the axle.

I think my ring was bent - there were no teeth missing. As Dave mentioned in my thread, it could probably have been straightened. The CV joint was badly leaking and the boot was shot on the old axle, so it turned out OK in the end.

I am probably imagining it to try and justify the cost, but it seems to ride a little better at the front now. Maybe a bit smoother.. but probably not

That's a lot of money in my case, this is why I wanna be sure that I don't need to change the whole axle 😅 In your case it seems it was necessary.

Yes I was pretty surprised how much it cost but I don't think I had a choice. I really trust the mechanic and have a good relationship with him.
