S500 - Door Trim Question

I know this is going to sound stupid to a lot of enthusiasts here, but I have to tell you that I have a track record of breaking a lot things that shouldn't get broken. So I need help here so I don't break my door, the plastic skin. Please see the picture. I can buy another trim piece. And I have looked at the encyclopedia:

https://w220.ee/Front_doors

Why is the end of this trim piece sticking up? Is it as simple as pulling it (the whole trim piece) off and replacing it with a new-to-me piece from eBay. I reticent to try to fix this minor problem until I can be assured that I won't make it worse.

Part of the reason I am asking is it looks like someone tried to glue this previously. There is a lot of black looking goo if you lift the trim piece.

Mercedes Benz, they are addictive, 97 E420, 98 S420, 06 S500 and an 11 S550.

It looks to me like the wooden part of the trim has come away from the plastic backing that clips into the dash.

Like you say, you can buy the replacement part from ebay.

Using a plastic trim removal tool, I would try prying it off from the other side (by the door handle) and then lifting it off. When you buy the trim piece from ebay, also order some spare clips because they are quite brittle and may break.

These are the clips:

The trim is fine, it's the metal insert that's missing from the door panel. When you remove the trim you will see that there is a metal inserts for the trim to lock in to. You will have at least one missing.

Thank you all for the help. This is a great forum, BenzWorld.org, and the W220 forum in particular. I think I've received some of the most and best help here.

I've ordered a replacement trim piece from eBay and the clips. I do have the plastic trim removal tools. I'll have a go now at removing it and see if if can not break anything.
