I should have been more specific.

The USB- > RS232 cable "may" work with some laptop models, so long as you have a physical SDS installation.

The USB-> RS232 cable will NOT work if you have a virtulised SDS installation.

The newer SDS version may not be installed on a virtual Windows guest, that is because the key cracking won't work.

Hi,

VM is not really a viable option these days anyway is it ??

It is sooooooooo slow and, AFAIK, most Software since (2014 version at least) comes on a HDD with it's own modified Windows XP, not VM
Well that's how my 2014 / 9 is anyway

Cheers Dave

Hi,

Thank you for replying to me on this issue, it really is much appreciated ...............

I click on the Tickertape program, and that loads up the mosaic.jar, don't know exactly how it works

Ahhhhh, now this is where I am a "Software Numpty"

I tried all sorts of FILE exemptions into Java 8 on Sunday, all to no avail

However, I had put "file://" and not "file:///" ...................

So, ok I will uninstall JAVA 6 and re install the latest Java 8 and re try the above

Will let you know if it works

Seems sensible to me

@wallyp & @MikeKerr ,

Glad you posted that ATA / AHCI BIOS option, otherwise I'd have been head scratching and swearing when I get my new SSD later this week for experimentation, probably going to try that on the #2 Disco Karaoke machine and see how it compares on the slower D820 / 3Gb RAM machine

Can anyone recommend a good program from EBay that is Idiot proof for cloning the existing HDD onto the SSD ?? Needs to be in plain language for me to work it ............

Edit:- Forget that, SSD just turned up, instructions say I can download a Cloning Software from Toshiba site

So, see pix, I now have everything I need to get started with my first SSD Drive, if they are as good as everyone says, I'll be spending a whole load of money soon to replace all my drives with SSD
If this is good I'll go for a couple of 500Gb SSD's for the 2 Disco / Karaoke machines, and some circa 320Gb for my diagnostic stuff

Looks like I might as well write off the rest of this week, out all day Friday, and I'm waiting on bits for a Car with Immo Grief, so I'll re book the BMW for next week and play IT Technician for the rest of today and tomorrow

OK, so 1 final question from the "Software Numpty" (for now)................

If I, (read anyone), clones their working SDS Drive, will it still need the Key Codes sorting, or should they clone over with it ??

Many Thanks ya all, I'm actually learning a helluva lot right now ............... One day etc etc

Dave

@Dave2302 .. the answer should be in your first picture.

Name: mosiac

Location: file://

Reason: Your security settings have blocked a local application from running.

Try adding file:// and file:/// for safe measure. If that doesn't work then the .jar file tries to access some other file/application which can be a pain to troubleshoot as you would have to read the code.

Been there, done that, didn't work. Too bad - that would have been nice!

The key codes in my software are tied to Hardware ID, Application ID, and LAN ID. If any of these change, the key codes no longer work.

One of our helpful members furnished me a simple keygen program from MMH Auto - that sorted the DAS key code, but not Xentry nor WIS, nor EPC.

Luckily, the software vendor from Canada who sold me the software (on 14 DVDs!) two years ago is still willing to generate all of the key codes and send them to me. I have emailed all of the IDs, and am waiting on those key codes now...

I think that he will sell the software on an SSD now. (And not the DVDs.)

Hi,

Thanks for that, I will try it in the next day or 2, as I'm busy populating my Disco Player Playlist Entries right now.

If that doesn't work, I think I'll just Uninstall Java and put the Java 6 back on it, at least it works the mosaic.................

I just have to click "Run This Time" at each boot, which isn't really a big deal, just I'm really Anal with everything !!

I'd simply like to click my "Tickertape" Shortcut Icon and BAM it works straight off

I will report back how I get on, the alternate fix will be to get rid of the "Update Java" / "Run This Time" bar that jre6 pops up, so if you have any ideas about that instead the pics of that one are here in an earlier thread on Page 1 lol ?????

Thanks,

Dave

@Dave2302

The issue with JRE (Jave Runtime Environment) 6 that you are having is actually an Active X Security Control Block. Which can be handled similarly to how we are fixing JRE 8, except that this control is in IE and not Java Control Panel. The was you resolve this:

Is by adding the site to "Trusted Sites" as follows:

Follow these steps:
a. Open Control Panel
b. Open Internet Options
c. Click the Security tab
d. Now click on Trusted sites in "Select a zone to view or change security settings."
e. Then click Sites below the selection box
f. Enter the Website URL and click on Add
g. When you are finished, click on Close.
h. Close IE and reopen if it is open

That wonderfully helpful soul immediately sent me the complete suite of keygens that I needed, they worked quickly and correctly, and the entire system is now working on the D830 with SSD. The very noticeable speed increase and the larger, sharper screen are both much appreciated.

I spent a couple of hours of removing unneeded programs and services on the XP operating system, and fine-tuning the details. So far, so good, as I plummet past the fifth floor...

Hi Guys,
@W220_N00b

Thanks for that, again I'll try that soon if file:// and file:/// doesn't work in Java 8

I got hold of the guy who developed and sorted the whole system on XP D600's some 15+ years ago, he suggested if I can't get the new Java's to work then I should uninstall and use Pale Moon on 32 bit Windows 7, dunno what you make of that ??
So in a nutshell I now have 3 things to try

Got halfway through the Disco Playlists yesterday afternoon, hoping to finish 'em today.
I've got to do them the long way round, because my main playlist has, over the years had a load of "requests" that have ended up saved in it, and never get played these days, so I'm editing them out, and will play the oddball requests with a "do not save" in future

......... There is always that one, annoying, drunk woman at a Wedding, (usually a friend of the Bride), who insists on requesting loads of her favourite tunes, normally qualifying the request with "I know these folks, they'll all dance to xxxxxx" ........

So that request then kills the "groove", everyone on the Dance floor goes and sits down, then it takes me another 15 minutes + to get them all back up Dancing

@wallyp

I did look for that disc of Keygens but cannot find it anywhere, I sent it Zipped to @pinkster , he may still have it to email to you I'm sure these are more for doing stuff on the Cars, but it was all way beyond me back then, and didn't have time to mess with it then

Cheers Dave
