Haaaaa, if you wanted parts car, come over here. I have a gazillion w220 within a rock throw that are $1000 or less.

Granted, they're in rough shape, but their parts are serviceable. Too bad you're not on our side of the pond though. Hell I would've gifted you that W220 that I got for free, if you remember that one.

Funny thing about us, we know exactly what causes the failure and we can replace only that component (pump), but when it comes to customer job for the same issue, I always do the full job, is, full PSE replacement from a breaker with warranty.

We can handle it if our fix last only 1 or 2 weeks and pull it apart again.... But not customer. He wants 1 time fix and no come backs for the same issue.

In fact I just went through something similar last week. W164 ML350, had a pretty nasty oil leak. Coming from PCV breather valve on back of engine head and broken rubber plugs on both sides, plus there was an ever so slight tiny oil seeping through valve covers... If that was mine, I would've lived with the valve cover leak, it was like 3 drops a day and replaced the rubber plugs and PCV in 10 minutes. But I knew this customer, he's a hardass and likes to warranty jobs for the most insignificant reasons... So I billed him for the whole VC reseal R&I plus the PCV and rubber plugs. We will see if he comes back next week because of an errand oil spot that I didn't manage to clean.

Hi @Deplore ,

Yeah, I know what you mean, if that were a Customer I'd have bought a good used with 3 month G/Tee, well, that is exactly what I did with that CL a while back.

I have put the "Donor PSE" back together and back in the loft, in case I need any more spares from it, the Vac Pump out of mine is still good, it's just the Motor that's lazy, doesn't look burned, like you said earlier one day I might find a suitable set of brushes for it if push comes to shove

I was looking on fleabay yesterday, found a really nice W220, bit scabby round the body, 2001 V8 S500, fully loaded, has had brand new Bosch Battery and 4 brand new struts and a compressor, not long been stopped using it, guy started it at 1000 some weeks ago, now down to 650 ..............................

1 problem, it's 600 miles away from me in London

If it's still there in a couple weeks I'll probably be on a plane and fly down there, just can't take 2 days off right now

Chow for now,

Hell, that's a 1 day job. Car starts? Buy it and drive it all the way back in 1 day and be done with it.

It's what I'd do....but then again, as you say, there are some days where its not advisable for me to take a day or two off.

Back again

Having the R170 on the road for the summer has given me a kick up the butt to start back on the W220, so it can go on the road before year end

The PSE is fine and behaving itself so far.

Passenger Door Mirror all back together no silly fault message on dash now as 150 ohm resistor soldered across the "Facelift Style" Blinker Repeaters wires, I did the Drivers one waaaaay back when I painted the right Doors, hadn't got round to doing the left one since I painted the Left Doors over my Xmas shut down.

So, "Easter Shut Down", bumper and the remaining tiny plastic bits (that reacted last time), are now all Base Coated and looking good, I will tack rag them in the morning and shoot them with Clear Coat

I'll put them all back on next w/end
It's a lot easier when the outside temp is at a heady 26c, compared to -5 most of the winter

So this just leaves the 2 Rear 1/4 Panels and Roof, which I can now prepare outside as the weather is great right now, and then I will just fetch the Car in when ready to shoot with Base and Clear

The Bonnet (Hood) and Rear Bumper will be OK for now, I can do them at my leisure as neither will go rusty via the odd few stone chips

Light is at the end of the Tunnel as they say

Cheers for now .............

Ha Ha Ha

So I was just looking back on some old thread posts ..............

I can't believe it but it's true, it was November 17th 2018 when I Primered the Front Bumper and the little plastic bits ...................

So 5 months ago ..................... 5 MONTHS AGO !! .....................

Then over my Christmas shutdown I Painted the 2 Left Side Doors, was going to do the Roof and Rear 1/4 Panels then, but ran out of time

Where does all the time go ??????????????????

Oh .................... wait ..................

I bought an R170 in December and spent the last 4 months + spare time doing a rather complex Android Install and getting the Car into top shape so I can enjoy it this summer

The R170 got Road Tax 1st April, and is now getting used every available opportunity

Clear Coating the Bumper and Bitties in a while, it is warming up nicely outside, gonna be a glorious day .................

This Paintwork seems to be a lot easier with a decent outside temperature, maintaining an even heat in the workshop is much easier right now

Back soon

All done, 3 coats, last one a real wet one ...................

I hope this little Bee(stie) stays put and doesn't end up in my freshly Clear Coated Bumper and bits

I've left the heat and extract on, it's like a sauna in the building now, but he seems to be staying put
