Pah !!

Went out to the W220 earlier today after giving it a drive at the weekend, needed some documents out of the Glovebox ...............

Pressed Unlock Button, Alarm Chirped, Indicators flashed, door locks moved up just a "gnats", then stubbornly refused to move any more ..............

Car started straight up after I'd unlocked the Door with the Key Blade, so as it's obviously not a Battery, RF or Key Issue I'm guessing the PSE has decided to sh!te its pantaloons

All PSE functions have been fine for as long as I have had the Car, no "time out" codes before, so I'm guessing it's just turned it's toes up

Hopefully my Parts Car I'm getting on Saturday will have a decent one.

I have a spare in the loft too, which does have an issue, but hopefully I can get an Impeller kit and build a good one outta the 2 FUBAR ones, I'll plug the Car into SDS on Sunday.

At least you have SDS for proper version coding...my MaxiDAS doesn’t do that so if PSE issues I have to drop US$120 at dealership just for the correct recode 🙄

That $120 is roughly a third of the cost for a decent SDS set up.

Personally I wouldn't work on Mercedes Benz without it .................

I also have many other Dealer Level Machines for various different makes which are popular in my catchment area, and that I see in my Workshop

Of course it doesn't do the "proper version coding" you are paying a dealer to do. If you plan on keeping the Benz, SDS is a no brainier.

Hi,
@Deplore , and anyone else who knows about PSE System

Ah, well got my W220 into the Workshop late yesterday, quick session on SDS, as usual a problem that I've never seen before ......................

Initial read since suspected PSE Failure ..............

Just the one code, Trunk Lock Actuator "time out" ..................

OK thinks I, Actuator or Pipework to Trunk leak, so I reset it, do not touch the Trunk Lock re read it, no codes present, so I try the central locking to see what happens, will she Lock the Doors ??? .....................

No movement at all, so I code read PSE again to see if the same code has reappeared ...................

"Woah there Neddy" ...................

Time out on Seat Bladder Functions, All Doors and Trunk Lid, bucket loada Codes ???????????????????????????????????????????

Rinse and repeat a few times , so this is repeatable.

Ran outta time, dinner calling.

So this is highly unlikely to be all of these items gone bad at once, and as all are fed from separate PSE Pipework Circuits, my gut still says PSE Unit, I'm hoping the one on the Spares Car is OK as I'd like to just try substitution as a quick and dirty test, (checking and if necessary resetting the Version Coding first of course)

Will see what transpires, like I said, this Car has had flawless soft close, locking, trunk opening, seat functions etc ever since I've had it, so I simply do not believe every Pneumatic circuit on the Car has gone bad overnight !!

Vacuum pump in PSE went bad. I think there's just 1 pump in PSE, replace it and should go back to normal.

Most commonly the brushes go, but if you can somehow find a brush kit for that pump....

Hi @Deplore

Hi, yes, thanks, that's my gut feeling, I can't imagine it went from perfect to everything leaking in 24hrs

I have a PSE from one I changed on another Car a while back, I am fairly sure this one had a Circuit Board issue, so I took it apart yesterday and cleaned it, Motor and Pump is working fine, so perhaps Sunday I might get to swap it

I'm off to Glasgow in a while, pick up another S500, driving it home hopefully later today .............. Parts Car

If that one is all working, I'll swap it in to see what happens

Cheers Dave

Hi @Deplore ,

Well I didn't buy and bring the "Parts Car" home, see other thread Post #22 here :-

https://www.benzworld.org/forums/w22...l#post17742662

You were bang on the money, it was as we suspected, Motor Issue

I have just removed the PSE from my W220, as I unplugged it all it started to run, but sounded very lazy !!

I had one in my loft which I took off a CL and fitted a good used one, this one kept blowing fuses, a Circuit Board issue I think ..............

So I stripped mine, installed the Motor / Pump assy from the old CL unit, this one ran well when powered, so I fitted it back into my Car ............

Instantly it worked the Soft Close, gave it a few minutes to settle down then tested Central Locking and Headrests etc etc etc all working fine

Now I know why I hoard old parts like this, saved me at least £100 for a new motor, or a couple £ hundred + for a used PSE
