S600 secondary air injection

Here's another one!

The DAS still baffles me, but I'm getting better!

As I have reported before, my car has a (pre-existing) history of misfire of #12 cylinder, which has triggered the CEL on and off. But, as one can see from the DAS picture, it is currently only STORED, not active.
However, the secondary air injection faults shown are active, i.e. they currently trigger the CEL. There are also the associated cat faults, but they seem to be just a "chain" fault.
I have noticed, that when I start the car COLD, the air injection pump makes a lot of noise. After about 30 -40 seconds of warm-up, the pump goes quiet, and after about 80 seconds the engine is quiet in idle at about 500 RPM.

Even with all these fault, the engine runs smoothly, and without any apparent power loss.

Anybody have any suggestions on how to proceed from here?

thnx!

I have a 2005 S600, so I'm not sure if the secondary air system is the same...I pulled a p0410 code about a year ago. Took about 8 months to diagnose through trial and error. I tried replacing the pump first (it was making a buzz saw noise at startup for about a minute). No go. Then I cleaned out the reed valves under both the bypass "disc" things. They were coked with carbon. Still no go. Then I replaced the changeover solenoid. Still no go. Then I replaced the rigid vacuum line, and the error cleared...for 3 months and the pump went bad again. So I just turned the entire system off in DAS developer mode. Not sure if it will pass emissions this way, but I'm not due for another year and a half, so I can deal with it then. It does not affect drivability, it's purely emissions related (blows extra O2 into the cats to heat them up to operating temp faster at start...then it runs a check every once in a while when you are at idle). Hope that helps point you in the right direction! It was a royal pain to diagnose it.

Hehe; sounds just like my (intermittent) problem.

Perhaps you can pm me how to go about that in developer mode DAS (i'm still a novice); in my location there are is no state emission testing requirements.

yep - got it.

Next step will be to de-activate the secondary air injection; no mandatory checks here in my location.

Also there is no EGR on this engine, so I can skip that.

Did you also de-activate the O2 sensor function (wasn't clear to me)?

This type of support is very much appreciated!

I only deactivated the secondary air system. Toyed with the idea of doing the same on the O2 but then thought "why mess with something that seems to be functioning?" I have my hands full with the random stuff that comes up in general. Lol!

M28 versus M27

Marktan,
There is obviously a big difference between my older M27 controller vs your M28 controller. My older one appears to have a much more complicated menu structure, and, for some reason it only comes up in German, so the abbreviations are not the same.

I went to your item 8. - Go to Implizierte Kodierung (for my engine)

In all the endless choices, I could not find Secondary Air Injection, but only one as shown in the attachment#1 "SLP". This does not sound to be the same.

Then I found thru an entire different menu tree whats shown in picture #2, this translates more into Seconday Air Injection, and may be the way to go. However, I'm cautious at this point.

Then I found yet another menu item under 'Actuations", that enables unlocking of the controller to go in a programming mode.

The question now is: Do I need to "unlock" the controller first, as in picture#3, before I select "Sekundaerluftsystem" as in picture#2

I'm having a lot of fun with this, but, I'm cautious.

Maybe other can chime in here - much appreciated!
