This is DIY how to clean the nav cd drive in comand 2.5. Purpose of the cleaning could be scratches made by dirty roller on the CD's, stuck CD in the tray and also reading errors caused by dirty laser lens.
Getting the comand out is quite easy...after opening the ashtray unscrew two screws and remove wooden deck from the comand. There are 6 torxes that hold the comand in place.
Disconnect all connectors...caution, every connector has some locking mechanism, except antenna...so proceed gently.
With the comand on the desk, unscrew and remove nav module. That is all with comand...the rest is with nav module only.
This is the way of the CD to CD drive, there is grey roller inside moving the CD in and out causing a scratches on it when dirty.
Remove top cover by unscrewing one bolt and work around gently with a flat screwdriver.
This is look inside to the nav module. Unscrew three bolts and disconnect the connector...nothing more to be done here. Carefully take the CD drive out of the module, pull up lightly and stop...
...there is one more connector waiting.
CD drive is in a frame. Removal from the frame is possible after unscrewing the following bolt.
We are going to the harder part...removal of the CD drive tray with the dirty roller. Disconnect 4 connectors and unscrew 2 bolts (one from the top and one from aside)....now mind the location of those two springs and remove them with the pliers.
Before we remove the CD drive tray, mind very carefully a location and orientation of those two parts cd drive and cd drive tray. The grey part should go below the white one.....during assembly, take the CD into the fingers and move it in and out from CD drive. This will prove the mechanism is correctly assembled. It must be a smooth movement. Do not push on the CD in case it will get stuck on the way in. Check the grey/white part of the mechanism again and compare with what you remembered.
Next is marked a possible location of the laser. Once the tray is removed you can clean the laser lens by pushing there a small rag dipped in an alcohol.
Cleaning the roller with an alcohol.
Make it clean enough....the best would be if we would not go to see the roller next ten years
Roller will be smooth after cleaning, but be sure the CD's will fly in and out now without being scratched or stuck in.
That is all. I had to do this part by myself because I liked the original look of comand 2.5 and did not find any DIY description. A big thanks to Mercedes Electronics upgrades, installation and retrofits for their "Comand 2.0 Servicing and Disassembly" which I used as a rough guide to this comand 2.5 cleaning only procedure.
Sorry for my English, my native language is Czech. Have a fun and successful DIY with you S
