MB Warranty

I bought a used 2006 S500 that is still under warranty. Just recently, one of my smart keys partially quit working. It will start the car and unlock the doors but fails to lock the doors, open the trunk or set off the panic alarm. Does the MB warranty cover this key? Thanks in advance.

Oh, come on!

You should have a warranty booklet; did you read it?

You'd get your key from your dealer; did you ask him?

Did you drive over it, leave it in your clothes while washing them, or otherwise use it in a way for which it was not intended? If so, it may not be covered. But, the two sources above should give you a good indication.

This was a legitimate question. No need to try and belittle people. If I had purchased it at a dealership, I surely would have asked him. There are enough people on this forum that I thought someone had a similar case and experience to share with me on the matter. If it bothers you, there is no need to reply at all.

Wake up, censored. It isn't unreasonable to expect you to put forth just a modicum of effort on your own behalf before you ask others to do it for you. It's the attitude of people who cannot seem to do that, that bothers me. And I'll highlight it if I wish.

Read your manuals.

Others have indeed posted problems with keys. More good advice is to search the forum.

And I am sure that somewhere in your part of the world, there is a dealership, even if you didn't buy your car there.

Unbelievable. Here I am asking a simple question and the answer I get is to put forth effort to read my manuals or search the forum. I have read my manuals, although I do admit to not searching the forums. I did not know that I was projecting an attitude of any kind. Just a quick question for someone with any experience to reply to, nothing more. I thought that was what these forums were for. I apparently was mistaken.

I'm not sure but I think your warranty might cover the non-operative key in a sense. Maybe the problem is not with your key but is with what the car's receiver does with the signal. I'd take it to a dealer for a diagnosis.

The "key" words here are "still under warranty". Just take it to your nearest dealer and get it fixed.. It doesn't matter where you bought the car.

Skylaw, I couldn't agree with you more. When I first read the post I thought I was "missing something". but I wasn't. If the car is under warranty and something breaks wouldn't common sense dictate you take the car to the dealer - jeez. This forum is an outstanding repository of information and insights that one wouldn't probably get from a manual. What it can't do is be a substitute for common sense.

You still have to remember this is a forum and members should not be worried about common sense and be worried about posting because they think they might be slapped on the wrist. Members just have to remember if they want a reply that is not sarcastic they have to give more thought and detail in the explanation.
