S55 AMG - brakes issue - I've never seen sth like this
I am new to the forum so I am taking this oppurtunity to say: hello to everyone!
I have been crazy about Mercedes-Benz for years and I hope that I can learn a lot here and possibly help the others.
I wanted to share with you my recent case with S55K which left me speechless.
The car had to complete period safety check, one of the points is emergency braking on rolls. After really firm brake pedal push the pedal went down to the floor and lost reponsiveness.
I noticed the brakefluid level went below minimum so I quickly took a care to the dealership.
It turns out that right front brake caliper developed massive leak. The line connecting left and right part of the caliper just broke (at least according to the dealer). Unfortunately I have some problem attaching the pic.
Do you have any ideat what might have happened? My suggestions:
1. The car might have been washed after long ride and water caused crack on the brakeline (temperature difference). Might have happened as the car was used by someone else. I wouldn't do it myself
2. During wheelchange, service or detailing somehow the line got bended and then lost material integrity
3. It was faulty from the beggining
4. The car wasn't used for few months so maybe brake fluid absorbed moisture and the line corroded.
Final question, the dealer claims it is not possible to repair. Only new brake caliper would be a solution. This raised my suspicion if they just don't want to charge and possibly the line can be simply repaired. Do you know if it is possible to remove this line and rebuild it?
