Battery Drain Issues

In another thread I started regarding an issue I had when I tried to reconnect my aux cable.

The morning after the procedure my car started sluggishly and I had the Low Battery No Conv Feat Avail warning. After twenty minutes in to my commute the warning went away and all seemed fine until after work and my car was dead and I needed a jump to start the car. The next day the car was sluggish again in the morning and I got the low battery warning again and twenty mins. It went away. This day it did start after work but the battery was low.

The next morning the battery was dead and I got a red low battery warning. I removed the cd changer thinking my tampering with it may have created a battery draining short. I had AAA come and check the battery and charging system and to help get my car started. They said my battery while drained was still fine and my charging system was fine as well.

I left the car in my charger all day just to make sure and everything seemed fine. Once off the charger it started and ran fine but yesterday morning it was dead again but started with a jump.

Yesterday I got the slicing clip for the optical cables that would have been connected to the CD changer. While at the dealer a service tech said that the Command System if not properly connected will cycle periodically trying to reestablish the network and diagnose any issues it might find. He said the system will draw up to an amp while doing this.

Does this make sense? Could this be why my system is running down?

I charged the battery today and put in the slicing clip.

Let's see if it stops running the battery down.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Eric

very likely
Your system is not going to sleep
It needs to rest
If its just a cable, then you're lucky, otherwise you're looking at possibly replacing a gateway module

I think one reason that there is a drain from the sound system is because the fiber optical cable is disconnected somewhere. Or if the command has been replaced it may need to be configured properly to your car settings.

Maybe you can do a relay hack and save yourself headache and $$$.
I think my splicing clip should let my system get a good nights sleep.

I just checked the voltage at the jump terminals in the engine bay and they are actually higher than this afternoon.

I'll be back tomorrow with an update.

Wish me luck

Thanks

This vintage system from Mercedes will stay on as long as bluetooth is connected. So if there is close proximity at your home between your car and phone, that could be the problem as well. Really lame engineering, it should shut off after say 10, 15 or 30 minutes.
