Remove CD changer?

I would rather have the storage under the radio then have a cd changer. Has anyone removed theirs. Do I need to buy the storage bin or is it just an empty area after the removal of the cd changer.

Interesting thought. That would create a nice storage area.

Would the removal of the CD player require coding of the MOST system or would the head unit accommodate that aspect?

Disconnect electrical harness / fuse 26 @ interior panel beside dash.
Convert fiber optic harness by reversing instructions in attachment, or install bridge part # 0005454484 to eliminate CDC from MOST loop.
Reconfigure MOST using SDS (MB diagnostic system).
Install storage tray part # 2116830091.

Thanks brother!
Have done it last weekend, only trick is bypassing the 2 optic cables, easy.
Also, I do have a tray, using glue adhesive it. No need coding.

I know this is an old thread, but I figured asking anyhow...

I too want to change out my CD changer for a storage compartment, but I have a few questions.

-I swapped out my NTG head unit for an Android unit, so am bypassing fiber optics in the car. Would I still need a fiber optic closeout in order for the CD changer panel to operate?

-If so, would you have a part number for the FO close out? (sorry, I'm a complete noob)

Kind of a shot in the dark, but thanks in advance!

Haha...All I can think of when looking at this, is that you all must have a need for a hidden drug compartment.

Question

I'd actually welcome advice on how to do this too...

CD changer isn't working for me anymore following switch to android headunit. It had stopped opening actually before that too when I pressed the open button it wouldn't work and I'd see CD error when attempting to remove from the old radio....So it's entirely possible the release door won't open for me even after the switch. :-/ I think I'm in exactly the same situation as Brooklyn.w211 above.

Thanks all!

Well I managed to remove the CD changer ok, the front panel came up after I loosened it. I detached the bit at the bottom to do so which I assume was the motor to open and close the compartment?? After teh drawer had closed again it now will not reopen again and pushing the silver button does nothing. Thankfully the hazard warning lights, door lock, and other buttons on the front panel still work.

Suggestions on how to make the front fascia/panel work again? Is it powered by the same wire as the hazards or a different connector?
