E55 Pitfalls

My 300e is recently totaled. I am thinking of buying a 2001 e55 with 27,000 miles. Can you tell me are there any pitfalls/mechanicals specific to the e55 (my 300e needed a wiring harness) that I should be on the look out for? Generally, are there any problems with the cars? What are peoples experiences with the cars as far as maintenance?

Thanks in advance for your candid replies as I am a bit nervous about the purchase.

The most common pitfalls include: defective MAF sensor, defective motor mounts, defective spring perch, defective instrument cluster pixels, defective rear window motor. Eighteen months ago, I bought my 2000 E55 with 40K on the clock, and have only experienced the MAF sensor and motor mounts issues. You may experience all or none. Nonetheless, an incredible vehicle with a phenomenal 349hp/391torque. Truly a rocket in disguise. Absolutely, no regrets. Good luck.

I just bought one with 56k miles, and as far as I can tell it has no problems. I love it. I'm probably going to replace the crank pulley as a preventative thing. The rubber in it can come apart from what I've read online.

Thanks, I am excited to go forward with the purchase. I am going to buy an extended warranty.
Thanks and I will post pics when I get the car.

Motor mounts

The motor mouts are about $100 each not that bad a job to replace and they will FAIL!!! So if you want them to last as long as possible use your parking brake to keep the weight of the whole car off of them. I just picked up my 02 E55 and I have no idea how long the passanger side one has been dead but it has pumped out most of its fluid! Before Mercedes went to the fluid filled units the old rubber style ones would last 100K as long as they were not under an oil leak and the driver used there parking brake. On the W140 cars you would have to replace them before you could change the spark plugs most of the time.
