99 E300d hard cold starting

New to me 99 with new injectors, fuel line orings, glow plugs. No codes. Takes a full minute to get started when cold. Local Benz shop said maybe the lift pump is weak or the glow plug relay is timing out too soon? When warm it takes longer than it should to fire. Is there a way to bypass the relay to stay on to test, and also was thinking of adding a helper electric fuel pump. Which one of these lines is the fuel supply?

New orings on deteriorated plastic groves never had good reliability records.
Rev the engine high (you don't have to worry about overreving as it has governor) and then observe for air bubbles.
Wouldn't hurt to check voltage on glow plugs when you turn the ignition.

Send a message via Skype™ to mrboca
Check the engine coolant temp sensor. You could emulate a cold engine reading by the IFI (the engine computer) with a substitute resistor to get the pre-glow plugs running.
