Question about ecu and more

Im currently working on my 97' w210 E300td and making it ready for drifting.
Well known power mods are pump, turbos etc. when im getting a mechanical IP im going to delete my ecu cause there is no need for that anymore. I have an automatic box and it runs on an ecu. When i delete the IP ecu will it just run fine afterwords or wil the gearbox do somethinh weird.

PS this is my first project car so if anybody has some tips or tricks please share it so i can improve. My goals are around 400Hp with an hx35 and 7.5mm dpuk elements. I also need new suspension and steering upgrades sow hit me up if you guys can help me and im from belgium 🙂

What is an IP ECU ?

Do you mean the Engine Control Module (IFI), which is in the same module box as the (EGS (electronic gearbox system controller) ?

I do not believe you can just remove the IFI. Unless you circumvent the key authorization somehow, you will not even be able to start your car, as the authorization code is stored in the IFI (as well as RCL).

Regarding the transmission, there is a lot of communication between the TCU and the IFI over the CAN Bus, engine speed, coolant temp, selected / attained gear information, etc. The same goes for the other modules (Instrument Panel, Traction, etc.)

Wow that sounds really helpfull but what if i had a manual box? Like a zf5 or 6. Do you still need any ecu. You can start the engine without any electronics when you have a mechanical pump right?

I think the best option is still to buy a stand alone ecu

I think so too. You will not be able to program the existing ECU to bypass functions. The best you can do is to change the version coding data via the MB HHT-WIN tool, if you replace the auto transmission to manual.

Look around if someone has already done what you want to do. They may sell a custom ECU platform for your car.
