Looking for a rebuilt power stearing rack

Hello, newbie hear. My'98 e300 rwd power stearing rack is leaking bad. I want to buy a rebuilt. Can someone recommend a reliable source. Rack doctor has it cheapest but his reputation isn't proven. Love to hear your input. Thanks

Hello:

We're all newbies at some point, right ?!

Ok, I love FCP Euro, they're great folks with a great customer service attitude. I did a quick search on your behalf.

(Mine too perhaps as my rack hasn't leaked, and might !)

They're proud of these things, a rebuilt by ZF which is an OE German supplier so I'd assume excellent quality. I did intall ZF built rear strut shock spring units in our w163, and they're great.

Here for $ 695
https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/mer...-zf-2104602500

You could also search Amazon using these OE #s:

A 210460250088 shows:

https://www.amazon.com/s?k=A+2104602...ref=nb_sb_noss

A 2104602500 shows:

https://www.amazon.com/s?k=A+2104602500&ref=nb_sb_noss

I grabbed those OE #'s from the FCP Euro listing. You may wish to shoot your vin to the seller to make sure of the application.

Or, bare minimum compare yours in great detail to the picture listed.

Last thing you want is an 'almost part' of this nature.

So, hope that helps ya out !

Side observation, we had similar issue with CV joints for 4Matics.
The $1300 for new MB, or $80 for Chinese brand made for easy initial decision, but when MB joints are lifetime item, as long as you replace boots every 10 years, the Chinese boots were reported to last 2 years and joints not far behind.
The member above gave nice selection of choices, but seeing close price range, I would definitely go for rebuild MB racks, leaving new "BuyAutoParts" brand in the dust.

Thanks for your interest and input. I'm going to take a chance with a distributor direct called rack doctor. Let you know how it goes.

Just checking to see how the installation of the rack and pinion steering went/is going. How difficult was the removal and installation? Would you recommend Rack Doctor?

Rack doctor called me and asked me if my rack has senstronic (I think I
that's what it's called). Ok, nice to check with me. So I call the dealership with my vin # to find out. They said, no it doesn't have the electronics. Ok. I called rack dr ti tell him. He said fine, cause we're have to find a rack for you, rebuild it, send it out. You don't want to have to return it. It'll cost you. Ok. I just emailed him yesterday with the news that it's the wrong rack. Having heard from him yet. I m having a general mechanic do the work. Originally for$250, but since he had the track pulled out before he saw the difference now it's more. This is more about dealership b.s. than rack dr right now. I'll give an update on how rackdr comes through
