Engine randomly dies with easy restart.

When my wife drives the E320 it usually dies. Sometimes it dies in the driveway. Sometimes it dies while merging into traffic or coasting down a hill. It always starts right up.

No codes.
No check engine light.

I resoldered the K40 relay board and thought it was fixed and thought I was a genius. But no, I am not a genius, it died again.

So I bought and installed a NEW K40 relay module. Thought it was fixed. Nope. I drove it trouble free for three days. She jumps in and can't even get out of the driveway.

It has new tires, new accessories, new ac...new steering rack, new conductor board in trans, new bushings everywhere... POS ! My old dodge omni is more reliable any day.

I would think fuel problem but it does not have classic fuel issue failure mode. Lots of power. I'm going to try changing the fuel filter next if I can find it.

Any ideas anyone?

OK I read the stickies -- time to start throwing more parts at it.
I'll put in a crank position sensor first.
Sorry for the redundant post for such a common problem.
ugh.

I wish I had deep pockets....

Maybe throw some of that money into a decent scanner, read any saved codes and post them here.

Does the engine die when the car is standstill and you depress the gas pedal to go wide open throttle ?

It does not sound like a typical bad CPS issue, but hey, it is around $30 (get a Bosch or OEM).

Do you have this problem when the engine is cold ? warmed up ? Have you checked your coolant temp sensor reading to see if it is plausible ?

MAF? You can try cleaning it. Or simply unplug it and see what happens.

Strange that there are no codes, pending or otherwise.
