Question 99' E280 - Check engine light

Hey. i recently drawn a wire for some extra night lights trough the vent on passenger side and into the engine compartment so i could fit it to one of the empty fuse slots.

After i was done with that i Noticed a "check engine light" and also the AC blower motor would not stop even after i stopped and removed the key. So i pulled both fuses for the blower and then it obviously stopped. Im waiting for a 38pin - to OBD2 Adapter so i hopefully can scan the codes myself, Im kinda far from a Workshop atm.

I have searched this forum and google and found several things that could couse this but i wanted to hear what you guys think. everything looks and sounds fine apart from the engine light and the Blower stuff i mentioned above. I checked all fluids aswell and everything is fine there.

Any help/input is most appreciated.

Regards
John

Hello

Which vent ? side, center, bottom, top ?

Is the wire connected anywhere at either side ?

Does the blower motor run at full speed ?

the top Vent on passanger side the one where you can direct air either up to window, straight out or closed. also had to the vent at the bottom same side.

the wire is connected to the fuse box in the engine compartment with a connector that i can plug the lights into when i decide where i want them. the electrical wiring was done with/by a friend of mine that is an electrician so im quite sure that is done correctly.

about the blower speed im not sure. i will test it in a couple of hours and also add some pics on the wiring.
i called my friend and he said that it could be the temp sensor or something that we maybe had pulled out when we stretched the wires following the same opening from cabin to engine compartment.

Thanks for quick reply!

Yeah take some pictures to give a better understanding. Include the fuse panel connection. Does the wire carry always on power ? or on when the key is in position 1 and / or 2 ?

It may have knocked connection as you mentioned but I do not know the relationship between the blower motor and the check engine light

My internet decided to die... anyways i have taken some photos. hoping that can give some insight. Thanks a lot for the response!

The wire does only carry power when the key is in position 2.

And the check engine light is still ON ? I assume the blower motor issue is gone now ?

Strange wiring method. Red fuse wire becomes black........ What fuse position is it plugged in ?

Yeah, the fuse thingy he used is a "splicer" not sure if that is the right word in english... but its a thing that makes one fuse slot into two slots. basically like a power outlet strip if that makes sense.
its fitted in slot 23 wich was currently for the phone, atm the phone is still there, but i was planing on removing it couse its kinda just stuck/jammed under passanger seat being crushed everytime someone moves it

Yeah well everything seems to "work" fine, but when i put the key into pos 2 to test the blower and see if the diffrent speed worked (wich it did) pretty much every possible light lit up.
Im gonna go down to the car now and take a picture if that still happens.

Also considering i have stripped most of the panel/glove box (including the light for glove box) will the car maybe "consider that an "error" or? i have no idea how many sensors and what the sensor monitors so if that could affect it i guess i have to put some of it back on and try again?

i do Really appreciate the feedback, Thanks a lot!

brb il take a picture while its still somewhat light outside

Maybe if you take a video and post in on youtube or something, as it is difficult to understand when you say "every possible light" .. On the dash, some other place ? Does the "Check Engine light" turn off when you start and run the engine ?

What type of climate controler do you have ? The one with dials, or screen with buttons ?

In general it is not a good idea to mess with anything behind the glove box, as there is climate control switchover valve, passenger side airbag, etc. in there. No idea why you could not find some more convenient location to go through the firewall . I know the tapping method which is typically used for dash cams here, but one has to be careful.

The interior light issues will not cause any warnings that are visible to you (maybe detected and logged by the controllers). At least not a "Check Engine Light "

sorry, got really busy with family and easter stuff the last two days.
Anyways the battery was flat so i could not turn the key to film the error lights.

however i found a loose wire that might be the culprit of this whole mess. at least i really hope it is.
i had to drive home (My father was kind enough to lend me one of his cars) and leave my car at our cottage so i put a charger on while im away. Im going back later today or tommorow.

im posting some pics of the loose cable, it was getting dark and late so i dident manage to see right away where it should be connect or even what it is for.

As allways, Any help is really appreciated. And thanks a lot for the help so far

Regards
John

edit: The green wire is to an eberspraecher so this "Mystery cable" seems to be going to or towards the Blower
i dident write down the numbers on the cable as i tought i would be able to read them from the photo...not my smartest move for sure
