Bringing the car in is part of the scamming some dealers do.
Like charging $50 for master key, or $150 for programming, where none of those exist.
So once again, if you are getting NEW key, shop around. The retail for knob + blade key was $180 last time I bought it 3 years ago and even I had to fill some papers (did not had title at the time, but only Bill of Sale) - I never had to show the car.
$300 for 2 keys sure sound like excelent deal. Just make sure they are licenced.

Good deal for two keys, I charge $250 per key.... Granted, that's the price to businesses, since they can afford it.

Very unclear why this would be "better"

I've been doing this work for free, can't beat my price. Part costs $50, shipping $10. Still a lot less, and no jacking around with EIS.

And unless he overwrote your key into new one, still possible.

Remember, the guy who sells new mufflers will always tell you that a new exhaust is a better idea than fixing the old one.
