You didn't however answer the burning question which will determine how you proceed. Is you car 4 wheel drive or not? It will say 4 matic on the back if it is.

You were advised to ignore the rust on the sub frame...it doesn't matter.

Im sorry, I thought I mentioned it already. Yes it is a 4-matic

Question about the frame rust: is there a "main frame" that the sub frame is attached to and if yes, would rust there be more serious? It was mentioned to me, but I am wondering. Since its called a "sub" frame I assume its attached to a main frame

At last...all 4 matics sit high...and thus yours is low at the back. Why not fill in the details of your car under your user name to prevent this happening again.

The "main frame|" is the chassis of the car. The sub frame is attached by 4 bushes...they very often wear out and must be replaced, especially the front pair.

My 4matic wagon has the same ride height profile as the OP. Ride is harsh in the rear over bumps but I don't mind the aesthetic of a low rear and with the age of this car I have to choose carefully what gets repaired/replaced and what gets ignored.
