Oil change with Mobil 1 0W-40 and a Mann fleece filter. Used less than 1/2 quart since the last oil change 5,000 miles previous. Not bad for 176,000 miles.

Why change on so little miles or was it triggered by time?

Twice a year or every 5,000 miles. My personal choice of intervals.

My opinion is that it is a overkill. Somebody on the forum had sent oil in to Blackstone(?) at regular intervals and the response was that it is bad to change it to early due to an overconcentration of something when the oil is new - not sure what it is.
I do it strictly based on FSS, getting distances between 10,000 miles and 17,500 miles. And on both cars, at 179K and 209K respectively, my oil consumption is the same as yours under normal driving.

And everyone is entitled to their opinion, which is why I made the comment about it being a personal choice. I have no intention of turning this into an oil thread. It's a matter of choice based on my personal experience with over 20 years of work with industrial engines from 5 hp to over 2500 hp, and the lubricating oils used in them. Having worked with oils, oil analysis, industrial filtration systems and engines with sumps in the range of over 200 gallons, I'm pretty comfortable with my choices, thank you.

I like changing mine every 6,000-7,000. I never go past 7,000. I also change my oil filter every 3,000 miles just because it's so easy to do on this engine plus a clean filter never hurts.

My reasoning for changing at those intervals is because, the FSS pushes the intervals too long. I would not feel comfortable going 10,000 miles or longer on any engine in any car. Even 9,000 is pushing it. My second reason is because mine is an AMG so I want as much protection as possible considering the engine is going to be driven harder than the regular m112/M113 engines.

Airconditioner compressor failed so urgent fix as a bit warm in Oz this week.
160 000km (100 000 miles) last week.
Getting to that age where I see material degradation, rubbers on suspension; speakers failing and similar.
replaced the sway bar rubbers, links, ball joints, bearings etc recently.
Else car remains in great condition and hoping for a few more years of great motoring.
Trim remains almost perfect.
Drives like a dream - rear shelf and roof lining rattle never sorted though.

Had a pleasant surprise this evening. Discovered that the CD cartridges for my 1996 R129 are the same as that for the 2000 W210.
