210 facelift mirror removal

this is for member KEYWASTED who posted a request for his face lift model
(but it was hidden within a pre-facelift thread)

pretty straight forward, though quite different than the 97-99 models shown
in the video. the spring latch on my car was quite stiff and defied my
attempts to remove in the conventional way...via flat bladed screwdriver.

so in the last photo...i simply reached in from underneath....in the recess
directly beneath the spring latch. i used my finger to feel the layout,
then I used a thin/long shanked screwdriver to reach in and up....to
release the stubborn tab.

it bears mentioning that upon reinstallation, it requires careful alignment in
order for the self latching connectors to mate (for the LED blinkers). what
was amusing to me were the two little fantail arms which help guide the
electrical plug into place....like those which help guide a trailer to a truck
hitch. there is also a second alignment guide below that for overall
alignment. press the housing firmly after you have everything aligned and
you should hear a satisfiying click when the spring tab latches
into place

tnx to another forum member who provided pics from their efforts

W210 mirror cover removal

That is the clearest explanation I have had to date.
Thanks to all who had input. Now I have to try it.

Wonderful illustration. Thanks, I try to smooth out the mirror on the pass. side operation. Currently, the mirror tilted when the car is reversed but operate with lots of frictions from the tilting device/motor. Sometimes it never able to restored the final position even when the car is shift back to its D position. Is anyone know the fix ? please advise. This start happened to my E class when my wife have accident that scratch the mirror from a forward movement that lightly hit the gate post in my driveway at a low speed but the mirror is not damage because of its folding feature.

{thanks to "knujlaer" from MBWorld who provided 2 of the pics when we were
both scratching our heads trying to remove 210 facelift mirror covers}

yes, after you remove the covers, clean out the junk. i found wasp nest,
small twigs, spider nest, etc.... all of which can contribute to limited mirror
travel. be sure to test the mirror for full travel and test for function
before you replace the mirror cover...as well as after.

Raymond,
I realize this is an old post but can you tell me what model year this mirror is from? I have a 2000 E430 and want to know before I start. Also, do you know of a sticky that shows the entire replacement of the mirror assembly (drivers side)?
Many thanks,

Many thanks,
photos in PDF are from 2000 E320

if you're referring to complete removal and replacement of the whole assembly,
the technique is to bend the mirror towards the rear of the vehicle and up against
the door. that will expose the fasteners. remove the one closest the the
mirror hinge first, followed by the two 'outer' ones (closest to door hinge)

Many thanks, especially for the model year in the photos. Regarding the turn signal indicator, is this just a plug and play, or is there anything I need to know, also, the bulb an socket were also missing when my mirror was hit and can't find it on the EPC, any suggestions?

don't know if the LED array is single piece, use and discard, or if the individual
bulbs are replaceable. car is away and in use for the next couple of weeks.
