Permanently disable miserable stop/start?

Anyone know a hack to permanently disable the miserable auto stop/start? Not just for one trip - but forever? Let me know!

The subject of M-B's ECO Start/Stop has been the subject of many discussions on various model forums here as well as other sites with M-B forums.

From everything I've read up to now, there is no way to permanently disable this feature. It's M-B's way of improving mileage statistics, and even the dealers won't agree to disable it.

I considered not buying my 2014 212 when I learned of the feature, but fortunately I didn't let that influence the ultimate decision. Instead, each time I get behind the wheel, I just start the engine, fasten the seat belt, switch off the ECO button, and I'm on my way. No stopping/starting at every red light, stop signs while you wait for traffic to clear, stop-and-go traffic, etc.

Not the solution you're looking for perhaps, but it works for me, and I don't have to worry about whether the frequent stopping/starting of the engine might be harmful over the long term.

I get the CAFE standard idea and that each manufacturer will do anything to eek out an extra mile per gallon. But that's presale. After that it's the owners's car and it should be the owner's discretion.

Here's what I've noticed: Every time I get in the car I fire the engine, hit the Stop/Start disable button, put the car into Sport Mode, and start driving. Next traffic light, the engine stops again like you forgot to clutch in on your old sports car.

I think what happens is that changing driving modes turns stop/start back on again. I'll try reversing steps 2 & 3 next time I hit the road.

You are correct in that switching modes will turn on the stop/start if you had disabled it first. The exception to this is Sport+ mode, which will actually turn off the stop/start, or keep it off if you already disabled it. So you are correct in reversing steps 2 & 3 - put it Sport mode, then disable stop/start.

Mid City Engineering offered a module to override ECO IIRC from posts I've come across on various M-B Forums. The cost was around $200. They are located in Illinois. You might want to do a search for them.

I can go into "settings" and disable this feature if I want to. This is not a one time disable, it keeps it disabled until I want to initialize it again.
